Default Rust!

My wife’s 2002 Saxo VTR spends most of the time under cover in our garage and has only done 30800 miles.
I took it for a run at the weekend and washed it afterwards. I noticed one of the side panels is loose near the rear wheel arch on inspection it seems a plastic clip has broken but the mounting is badly rusted. On checking round the car both sills are rusting badly and the inner wings are rusting both front and back around the seems. The struts in the engine bay are rusty as well. From the outside the car looks mint!

Has anyone restored a rusty Saxo and if so what does it cost?

Depends how bad the rust is

your idea of rust and mine will be different.

How long have you owned it? damage must have been from before you owned it unless you don't rinse under the arches or something.

Got pictures of the rust?

We’ve had the car since 2004 and yes I have always washed under the car and made sure the arches are clear of mud. I’ll take some pictures tomorrow.

All fairly minimal rust I would say. Jacking points look the worst but still not that bad. Your inner front arches / inner wings are in very good nick actually! Seen alot worse!

Thanks for looking. I wasn’t sure the link would work, my brother couldn’t open it.
There’s a local Citroen specialist who does restoration work so I’ll try and get a quote to get it sorted.

I’ve already spoken to a local alloy wheel specialist about getting the front wheels straightened (Evans Halshaw say they’re warped) they’ve quoted £240 for all four. http://www.phat-wheels.co.uk/

Rust is not too bad, but it's going to need looking at before it becomes too late.

Lol, how much is a set of VTR alloys these days.

Also I just had some wheel alignment done, £39 from the local ATS.

Right, so you've spotted it before it's caused any major damage.

All that needs is a good wire brushing and treated with paint.

The problem is rust getting behind these panels and corrosion from inside out,I'm going to say some parts you showed will require cutting especially the 8th picture, you'll find out it will be worse behind these panels than what you can see as they were never seam sealed from factory, anyway it's just metal and it can be repaired,I would help but a bit out of the way unfortunately.

The price was to straighten and powder coat the wheels haven’t looked at new ones. There was one on eBay last year for £50. I got a price for a Golf Montreal wheel from my local VW dealer at £395 so ended up getting a set of four refurbed ones for £275. Then sold my old set for £60, a different wheel refurb place wanted £90 plus VAT per wheel.
Evans Halshaw balanced the front wheels for £36 after we had two tyres fitted elsewhere but couldn’t get them balanced due to the solid centre hub.

Got my wheels back, no buckled or warped wheels. You can see images on the Phat Wheels Facebook page.
