^ yeah...... ok .......

That post sums up of three days working on a saxo and one day of repairing and racing it....

Record times should be posted too!!!

1. drive in / drive out complete engine replacement in exactly FOUR hours ... and thats with a lunch break using the cracked head as a table

2. gearbox change in under 25 minutes using basic tools and two trolley jacks

NOTE to anyone wanting to fit a walbro fuel pump ..... dont , unless you have loads of people on it attempting to fit it OR you are a budhist monk

edit : photos from the four days of saxo drama!!!

proper way of getting out of a race saxo when door doesnt open on the trailer....

car loaded and ready on thursday afternoon after fitting the fuel pump and the "rebuilt" gearbox

for some reason we tested the car the next morning before leaving ... loads of white smoke meant some kind of water contamination... after pressure testing each cylinder and eventually the water circuit we ended up with what seems as a cracked head!?!?
So engine out time and spare one thrown in !

4 hours , one lunch break and generally taking it very easy , car was ready

quick stop at maccies whilst on route to brands hatch

and finally two cold ones on saturday night after both races

i think low 59s on completely std engine and gearbox , just gsxr itbs and a sportex exhaust manifold .

both engine and gearbox were salvaged parts unopened or reconditioned !
i'm sure greyjasper will confirm these later on

stew it was a standard pump that shat its panties, so yeah walbro went in. it was low 59's on exactly as alex said, i bought a conversion that the kid said had done 79k... bodies one side and manifold the other

BRANDS UPDATE!!

i finished both races which is a plus point, 2nd in the first race and 3rd in the 2nd race after i got stuck in 4th gear... choker!!

anyway didnt do much, havent had much time with exams and coursework comming up, but went out anyway

qualified p1 with a 58.5 so well chuffed

race 1, got out into the lead, few seconds lead and just nudging forwards all the time, building that gap up, and 4 laps from the end i boil the brake fluid, front brakes stop working and dropped back to 3rd

fitted new pads and bled the brake system, and jiggled the brake cooling ducts

race 2, exactly the same as race 1. got to the front and the brakes went again, but this time i managed a 58.4

very happy with the times, i managed 58.6 8 laps in a row in the first race, shows the car is consistantly fast as well as me

next meeting is lydden and hoping for some more finishes, its a triple header meeting and points mean prizes so finishing it more important than anything else, got a few mods todo including finally changing the front wheel clamping from bolts to stud and nuts!! no more swearing and fumbling in a hurry

LYDDEN UPDATE!!

Qualified 3rd in class, was abit annoyed as i thought the car felt good, but anyway 3rd is a 3rd none the less

first race saw me take 2nd in class after having a good race with a proton and an mg however it ended early due to a red flag that happened in front of my face, that was not fun looking at a car going sideways waving at the driver

2nd race saw me starting 2nd and chasing the leader until about 5 laps in when i stripped all the teeth of 3rd gear and then had to finish the race with 2nd and 4th, finished 3rd and that was the end of saturday.

changed gearbox in a hurry then rush round to catch up on drinking that everyone else had started without me... pretty good night to be fair, hog roast and loads of beer

3rd race sunday after sobering up, was an interesting one as i started 3rd but still wanted that all illusive win, so round and round we went again, i was having a hard time keeping another saxo behind me but i managed it all the way to the line and another 2nd in the bag.

this has put me leading my class championship and 2nd overall from all of the classes. 2nd in class is very very close, well too close for comfort so i spose i will have to see what lies ahead of me for brands the next meeting.

i dont have any plans on touching the car, apart from usual check over and go again. the only thing i have done is order some spares that i didnt have before so i should be prepared if something is thrown at me... i hope it doesnt

there were no issues from the brakes fading, and the stud and nut conversion worked a dream so ive bought some for the rear now as well

changed the gearbox in a hurry to catch up with the rest who had already started boozing ....

you sure you are in it for the racing bit ? and not the breaking /repairing it / getting drunk part ?????

keep up finishing races and the win will come at its time!

BRANDS HATCH UPDATE

well, qualifying i made a mistake, i set the car up too soft thinking the track would be worse than it was... still went a 58.0 which is 0.4 better than i have gone so far.

race 1
this eneded up in a rolled car at paddock on the first lap when i golf speared infront of me and we both ended up in the gravel trap and me rolling
DNF
first one of the year and i think a valid reason

the lads worked like demons on the car to get it ready for race 2

race 2
i started 2nd from last and worked my way up to 10th place 2nd in class with a fastest lap of 58.1 with a bent car and unknown bent legs and tracking. then i got swiped in the door, right rear tyre punctured and just finished

alot of work now

pictures to follow soon

Started repairing what was needed and also started stripping the shell for paint, so hopefully she will be painted and back together the end of this year, few other things i need todo that have been building up in the workshop, she will look totally different next time out and also alot faster i hope
