You would plug the red and white wires into the back of say the stereo and then the stereo will play the sound and the moniter will play the video

Yeh its a bit of a pain if that happens, mines running though a projector wia HDMI & i've got the red/white composites going into my sound system.
You might need to ebay for a wee adaptor to convert the red & white phono plugs into a 3.5mm stereo jack to plug it into your hifi/sound system/a nearby pc / postable ipod speakers etc

Then could use it as a line in on the comp and play the sound though computer speakers

^ as said, HDMI cable (assuming you have an HD TV?).
£12 out of GAME iirc. My TV has so many plugs and sockets I cba to mess around as the PS2 is in one of the spaces.
Shame the SNES doesnt show up.
