Territorial Army
Was wandering if anyone on here is in or has been in the TA.
Main reason I ask is if they are as strict on people who suffer with Asthma as the rest of the Armed Forces.
Currently doing a Uni Course in Marine Sports Science and will be doing a third year in Sports Performance and Coaching and after will be looking at Joining the Police or Fire Service. I was looking at the possibility of joining the TA on the side.
Any help would be grand

You could go and speak to an Army Careers Officer, I am soon when my asthma starts getting better they might let you in if your fitness is tip-top, although I doubt that them being strict lol.
How bad is your asthma?

unless its changed i think they will tell you to give them a letter with any questions and then they send it off to the medical wing as they arent allowed to answer medical questions (i think).
you could just go on the online careers office and speak to someone live (Y)

Lol
Only Regiment that would interest me, RMC looks rock hard, other Infantry Regiments dont look as hard so Para is my first choice.
That is if im allowed in.
Fingers, toes, eyes, balls crossed.

But it is an actual fact that God is only airbourne because he failed the commando course...
Anyway, good luck getting into the paras and good luck to the op for TA, 4 years clear of asthma remember, and if you have been 4 years clear, dont bother telling the AFCO as they will still research your medical history and will prolong your application.. If you are clear, best not to tell them..

That's what I'm thinking, being 4 years clear is all good and well but what's to stop your asthma coming back whilst your Training, especially when you have the respirator on.
And anyway 4 yrs is a long time to wait....

What you think I should do McGuire?
Should I give up on this Para bizz?
Lie about it (mmm)?
Or..Go without meds, keep very fit and in 4 years apply?
'Cos there ne chance they'll let me in with controlled asthma!

Im in the ta, wigan detatchment and there are a few guys who have asthma and got in quite easily....
i'm dyslexic and i got in as its mainly spelling/ grammah..
but be prepared to be detatched.. wigan was asking for volunteers and romours are they are sending letters for compulsary detatchment in late june.
have you read into the ta properly? you have to attend one evening a week from 7-30 to 10 i do this every wednesday and your suppost to do one full weekend a month but its advisable to go everyweek when possible and you have to attend a 2 week annual camp whicn is usually abroad.
