Default Performance exhaust infomation

Exhausts!

Have you had trouble with a noisy exhaust with regulations at track days?

What decibel are certain exhausts?

For us new to track do want to go to a track and be turned away as are exhaust systems are too loud.

What are best for performance? I know ones like supersprint race system, piper seem to be the best for performance. Could there be much difference between ones in how the car drives, difference in bhp figures/torque. Could also bring manifolds into this too.

Also something i'd like to know is about how restrictive they could be going upto a certain bhp, saw in tuftys thread about him using a supersprint race system and people saying it may restrict his 185bhp engine.

I am thinking of getting a supersprint race system or a saxsport with a 4 branch but unsure as i dont want it to be too loud for track but still be good performance.

If it is too loud adding silencers will be the only solution. They are expensive but performance silencers to weld in don't restrict too much

Yer the kam racing with middle box was 84 dB when I had it tested at cadwell.

Would always say for track day goers get the middle box as desalt if design correctly should take power away.

I mentioned to kam racing about Db levels of the exhausts they offered for sale for this very reason and iirc they were going to look into testing them.

Can Kam racing confirm they will be doing this?

I plan to fit a saxsport with motorsport cat to help keep things quiet & legal on the road.

84 dB is not too bad it fine with a middle box too loud without IMO.

I'd like to get mine tested, I have a stock VTR manifold with the cat in the mani, Supersprint straight through centre pipe and an OMP rear silencer and its quiet as a mouse. I reckon its around the 85db mark.

A 50mm bore is good for up to 190 bhp before you have to start testing a 2 1/4. I'd argue a good design will be ok on a car around 200bhp with a couple of bhp lost at top end (maybe) As ever theres no cast iron rule on this and you would have to test multiple versions to really find out.

There are not many options for a quiet high flow twin box systems on the market, other than our backbox and supersprint centre or the complete supersprint system (which will be more like 86-87db.)

just a thought... might it be worth adding the expected Db levels to your website so customers can make an informed choice?
