I got that with my nato green one, sat in a show field with loads of polished ones with tacky chrome stuck on them, then there's a military green thing that's never been washed on big wide wheels lol.
I'd love to do the bumper cut (I started and gave up) but my artistic merit is absolutely awful. It would be completely wonky if I tried something like that.

Aly, I've owned one without PAS and one with. I find the PAS version better to live with day to day but for the hooligan stuff a manual rack was far nicer.

Thanks Tom, Yeah mine is very much my daily drive have to say it's got the nicest steering I've had on any car, weighty and light at the same time if that makes sense. On country lanes hooning about it never feels bad but for auto solo testing it wasn't good enough

Now relating to Tom, I actually have a de-powered rack, as the standard manual racks have more turns lock to lock, which people generally hate for drifting, so although the proper manual rack will be a lot easier to live with, it won't feel the same.
Main reason i de-powered mine is because everytime you drift it, open the engine bay and there is power steering fluid everywhere. Add rack spacers to the mix and you're probably gonna blow the rack up. Plus the steering now self centres like a boss in comparison to PAS, even with my lack of caster due to bent streeto subframe lol.
|
Cheers miller, so have you just removed all the fluid and left it open?
I've been told to try cooler temperature fluid never even heard of such a thing on power steering so could be bull?

Removed the pump, pulley, belt, lines, reservoir and drained the majority of the fluid, left a small amount of fluid in the rack to lubricate it, then looped the lines. So it's basically just pushing fluid around a small loop and back in to the rack.
Like this- (Except it's on the other side because RHD)
On the plus side there's a lot less pulleys on my engine now also, after removing the A/C and power steering, there's not a lot left dragging the engine down, which means free BHP!

Still love this, as a first time drifter, how would you rate this for learning in? Pros and cons?

Erm well i don't have anything else to compare it to.
The theory behind learning to drift PROPERLY in an mx5, is that when you move on to a bigger power better set up car, you'll find it easy, because the mx5 is such hard work.
So although it'll be harder, more frustrating and generally take longer to learn to drift properly in an mx5, it'll all be worth it when you jump in to a proper car. (But maybe not as much fun)
So it all depends what you want lol. If you want to jump in and be able to link corners and pull 3rd gear after your first drift day, get an S14 or something.
If you want something more rewarding, reliable and far more challenging, get an mx5.
But for the love of god don't skid first gear out of a junction and call it drifting.

Cheers for the reply
I was looking at starting a drift car as a weekend thing so wanted your opinion on the mx5, as I'm completely new to all this so taking everyone's opinion into account.
