Default Alternator 1.1 same as 1.6?

My S2 1.6 106 Rallye alternator has failed and I need a new one. Coincidently I know of another 106, owned by a friend, which is being broken for parts. The only problem is that my friend’s 106 is a 1998 1.1 – some special edition, I believe it’s a Zest 2. Are the alternators the same? Or do I need a beefier version to handle the extra 500cc?

Also – if anyone has any guides for removing / fitting of an alternator, it would be greatly appreciated.

Has the 1.1 got power steering? If it has not then the alternator might not be beefy enough for the 1.6.

Thanks for your response.

The 1.1 did not have power steering. But, nor does my Rallye.

Does that still mean the 1.1 alternator will not have enough beef?

Only way of checking is to compare both alternators, meaning have a gander at the specs written on them mate. Are the pulleys the same as well?

There's a place near me I'm Blackburn which fully reconditioned my alternator in a couple of hours for £35. There may be a similar place near you which could recondition your failed alternator.

Dont see why it wouldnt be enough (if it fits) as the Rallye doesnt have much in the way of electrical systems/accessories. But as said above, look ariund your area for starter/alternator recon places, I had an alternator reconned for about £45 and that included sorting shorted windings and a pumped regulator.

Cheers lads. From what I gather the alternator is completely seized. But I'll see if anyone can inspect/repair it locally.

Just done a bit of research on eBay and found that they all seem to be the same. The below, for example, states that the 70A alternator can be used for all PEUGEOT 106 and 306 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 Petrol engines between 1991-2005.

I'm going to compare model numbers and chance my mates. Hopefully it'll be a cheap and easy fix.
