Default My take on the DTM at Brands Hatch

Made my way to Brands Hatch Friday and Saturday for the testing/qualifying sessions of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.

Both days started off cool and overcast - so bad on Saturday that the helicopter was grounded and the organsisers said that the DTM and Euro F3s wouldn't be running on track until the weather brightened up sufficiently for the chopper to be able to fly - essential for a medical emergency. The weather brightened up nicely towards the end of the sessions though, which was nice.

Most of the inside of Druids was massively fenced off due to a TV camera on a boom being operated by a Hobbit in a tent remotely - JP and his cronies went a bit overkill on this and wiped out any chance of some flames and lock ups under braking into the corner and some nicely framed shots from the apex. At least you could get them at the bottom of Paddock and pan them coming out towards what is now known as Bottom Bend. The section over the bridge was rammed for most of the day.

Was playing around with parameters and think that full contrast is a bit much for displaying on the web, have turned it down on the camera body now.

Tomczyck early on at Druids

The Hak goes to the seaside

La Rosa exiting Druids

Hakkinen before he wanted to play at sandcastles

Paul di Resta on the Kerb @ Clearways

Through the fence again at Druids, 120-300+2xTC

Relatively high shutter speed of 1/100s for this one as these boys are quite fast.

Talking of pans...La Rosa @ 1/50s

Mika was quick all weekend, without really looking it

There was lots of tyre debris up at Druids

Gary Paffet didn't look too fast...

...poor old Vanina was last

Paul di Resta had an interesting paint job

Lucus Luhr chased by Martin Tomczyk into Druids

Finally what better way to end a thread with a pan...Susie managed 18th on the grid

There's some more dubious quality shots 'ere - including some from the F3 Euroseries, Lotus On Track, the FIM Sidecars and FPAs. The Lotus and Sidecars are just going up...

snewham - try here for Brands Hatch and here for Silverstone

Brands Hatch is a bit further away but more photographer friendly.

Viper - as Ryan says, 20D + some lenses

if you want, you can't get "trackside" though without all sorts of shit.

F1 testing will be a piss take, think they restrict you to a couple of areas to view from. my pics were taken from the public areas, you will need a massively long lens a Silverstone from the public viewing.

have got a 75-300mm lens as well as 5 others lol but I haven't photographed motorsport before. I'll see what's going on at Brands Hatch if that's more photo friendly
