has primary school maths failed you?

- I'm only going from this thread, he may have other stuff he hasn't told us about -

Budget = £1000
VTS = £400..

1000 - 400 = 600....

Cheers Blackie, I'll give that a go. I think i'll stick to the 14's for track unless I can only find 15's. It's a good job I've got plenty of wheels!

So I want decent tyres that are now nearly bald. I'm sure even I can manage that!?!?!?

Alex.... PM'd You mate.

Yes, £600 left. This is only theoretical money though, I'll be getting bits as I get paid. I will try and keep the momentum up on this though. As I said the aim is to have it ready for the Anglesey Track Day on 11th December.

I've got a harness in the garage somewhere. Cheers though Jay

Got a mate coming over today to replace the steering rack on his mk2 Golf. Hopefully it won't take long and i'l be able to get the S up on stands and get him to have a look over it with me. 2 pairs of eyes are better than one

By the end of the weekend I want to have it up, wheels off and a good idea of what rust there is and what needs doing about it. Then in the week i can treat it and get it under-coated.

WELL.... The underside of the car looks okay!

A fair bit of oil on the underside of the engine probably due to the little cover that goes over the bottom of the flywheel being missing.

It's got what looks to be pretty new Powerflex lower engine mount.

It's got Spax adjustable's on the from and non-adjustable's on the back. The rears feel fine as does the trailing arm bearings BUT the fronts feel like their blown... This was given more substance when I spotted a fair size dent in the sump! Looks like it's hit a speed bump with gusto and killed the shocks.

The wishbone bushes look pretty shot so they will be replaced. I reckon that while I'm at it, i'll get new drop links, ball joints track rod ends and top mounts just so i know everything in that area is new.

Once that's all done, at least I know it shouldn't clunk or grind when cornering.

SO, the list now is:
Brakes; 266's and new disks and pads F&R.
Chassis; New ball joints, droplinks, track rod ends, front and rear bushes, ARB bushes,
Rear beam bushes.
Suspension; Find some.
Interior; Find a seat and subframe.

That about sums up what i've got to get sorted in the next 12 weeks! THEN, I've got to tax, MOT AND insure it and get it to Anglesey! Sounds do-able BUT, I'm on holiday in a few weeks, then I've got 2 weeks on call between now and then, plus numerous birthdays etc.

Need to do some shopping!

If anyone has any parts for cheap or know anyone with parts that i'll need send me a PM.

Got some good stuff sorted and some work done over this weekend.

Firstly, I got myself a seat and some door cards, I got the rest of the interior stripped out, Got my exhaust on and managed in between all that to fit some new coil overs to my mates mk2 Golf GTi!!!

First off. I managed to get a Kevlar Cobra Imola 2 seat off AlexB. Cheers mate, I'm WELL chuffed with it! I also managed to find a set of carbon fibre door cards off here. A lad near Chester is breaking another "track" car so i took the opportunity to relieve him of the door cards. I might go back for some more kit if I get some money sorted!

I've also decided that the wishbones that are on at the moment will be refurbished with front poly bushes, new ball joints and some tasty rear mounts I've also got a new set of track rod ends coming and i'll also replace the drop links. This way, i know that everything in the wheel arches is nice and new! Also it should make sure that any noises or rattling is nothing to do with these parts.

I decided as well that I'm going to use the supersprint/piper exhaust set up that was on the VTR and I've put the standard system back on the VTR in the meantime. I also swapped the BMC filter on to it to complete some decent breathing mods to the engine. All i need to do to the engine now is give it a service, check the cam belt, replace the drive belt as it looks a little worn and it should be ready to go!

Since all that had been decided and sorted, today I decided to get the carpet out and clean up the foot wells. That was a lot more difficult job than I expected it was going to be! It's all done though and it allows me now to dry out the drivers side foot well as their was a lot of damp in it from a leak some where! Once that's dried out I'm going to try and get the dash out to remove the Air-bags and related wiring. Once that's done I'm going to look at relocating the cable runs as best i can. I'll also pinch some cable sleeving from work if possible to tidy things up even more

So now all I need for the interior is a side mount for the seat and I can start putting that back together.

I deffo think the front shocks are blown so I'm going to have a look and see if I can find a repair kit or a service centre that I can get them fixed. Hopefully this way i'll end up saving a few quid but still have a decent shock set up. then I need some front springs and to get the back lowered. I've been in touch with a lad from our region called Booney who's going to sort the lowering out for me as he has way more experience with big hammers and blow torches to release stuck torsion bars etc.

I'm still on the look out as well for a set of Bosch 54 callipers to complete the braking set up. I'm after these specifically as i already have some pads to fit them that i was going to use on the VTR. once these are sourced, a full bleed and replace of brake fluids will be done and some AP racing 5.1 will be pushed into the lines

So that's what I've got up to this week. Hopefully, the wiring won't be an issue and i can get it all tidied up before we go on holiday on Friday.

Don't worry, I'm only going for a week so i'll be back and hard at it before you even notice I was gone

Any road, here's some pictures of the stuff I've got and the work I've been doing.

I have also found some little bits of rust. Anyone know if it's worth sorting or will it just dry out now it'll hardly see any rain?

OH... I forgot... I also found an old Snap-On ratchet under the carpet! I don't know if it has been there since the car was built or what BUT it was pretty rusted up and had left an nice outline in the soundproofing material, Here's the pictures of that

Hope you are all enjoying this build. Any helpful ideas or tips are always welcome.
