Why do people keep coming out with this crap. If people wanted a vts they would of brought one in the first place. You saying "just a buy vts" isn't going to make them buy one is it.

the problem is people seem to think its easier and cheaper to convert to 16v, when it really isnt. the only reason to turn a 1.1 to a vts would be to avoid the insurance costs

Thats not really true, cost me £30 in total for a black vts then put all of the stuff i needed from it onto mine. Thats alot cheaper than buying a vts!

From what i`ve read I thought you had to weld a mount into the engine bay,as one of them is different mate?

I get the sense of achievement part, but I really don't think it's cheaper.

You're looking at a minimum of £150 probably for an engine, or perhaps a few hundred quid normally for a scrapper VTS to pillage for parts. However if you were happy to buy another car and pillage it for parts then scrap it, I doubt you'd be asking about the conversion before you'd got into it.

But the other things you should consider if you don't buy a shell are things like brakes and suspension.

I converted a 943cc ph1 to a VTR lump in the past, and bills start to mount up when you need bigger brakes etc. Sure you can pick these up 2nd hand cheap enough, but waiting for a bargain is a pain when your car is in bits on the drive.

The other way to look at it, is whats the condition of your current car? If it's in tidy enough order for you to consider swapping in a new engine, then it should be worth a minimum of £500 with a bit of MOT as a cheap runabout for somebody.

Then add a few hundred quid and buy a VTS? My 03 plate was £900 with under 100k on it and a years ticket. They're cheap enough.

No thats all bollocks, yes its advisable to weld the vtr/s chassis mount in ( and i plan to do it soonish) but its not a must im still using 1.1 mount and its been in a year and done around 30,000miles
