Completely agree with everything you've said. I do however think other people's comments are harsh and I suspect more than a bit hypocritical. I'm sure everyone on this thread has driven over 100mph on more than one occasion and maybe even in the wet. A bit like an ex smoker judging other smokers springs to mind!

You play with matches you get burned. I'm glad they didn't wrap themselves around a family car full of family.
Reminds me of this idiot: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...Newcastle.html. Sorry about the daily mail link but at the end of the day, 140 upwards is pushing it far beyond the safe limit. You're supposed to slow down when it's cold and wet.

Could have been a chase or anything as someone mentioned earlier, especially as a fight broke out following the incident!!
People go on about 140mph, doing that you deserve to die etc.
It's so easy to clock 140mph without even thinking about it in a decent car, granted most peoples saxos on here start falling apart and swaying when they hit 70 so they base it on that...
I'd feel more comfortable in my car doing 140 than i did in my saxo at 90.. and that's the truth...

I've seen a LOT of utter tripe posted on these forums, but this stands out as possibly the most uneducated, blinkered, selfish and bigoted things I've ever read on saxp. Well done.

You can get E60 5 series from 5k upwards. Not exactly a car that someone whos 22 or whatever has to nick or dip into parents pockets to own.

Plus one, that was my point too.
very easy to get hold of once you take finance into the equation to.
and as I said earlier, a 1.1 saxo at 90 would look the same or worse than a 5 series at 140 in the same incident...
expensive car / powerful car / black car / silver car / FWD / RWD - It doesn't matter; dangerous driving can kill regardless

Driving at those speeds in poor weather/road conditions is massively increasing the risk of having a crash and that's what happened unfortunately.
You have to use common sense when looking at something like this, you can't compare driving at 80mph on the motorway to driving at 140mph, regardless of the conditions.
If you are not aware that driving at those speeds in those conditions could end up in a fatal collision then you should not be driving.

As I'm a geek I went looking... and found this:
Quote:
In general, cars aquaplane at speeds above 53 mph (72 km/h), where water ponds to a depth of at least 1/10 of an inch (2.5 mm) over a distance of 30 feet (9 meters) or more.
|
Measure 2.5mm with your fingers. That's really not a lot of water. Not even a puddle as such. and at 100mph, you cover that 30ft in 1/5th of a second.
Not a lot of time to react...
Idiots, basically. Mathematical idiots.

HarsH? Sure you wouldn't be saying that if they crashed into a member of your family racing at them speeds

Why? So you want first part of your car test to be in a car park for 20 mins?
I do not see how it would help at all tbh, its not going to stop people driving like dicks..
& If dicks can pass the test now, there going to be able to pass a easier mod 1 such type test.

Tbf, I know a lot of people with a license who struggle to drive around a car park.
If they can't pass that, they don't get to attempt the big boys test. Not even allowed to attempt it until your testes have dropped either.

he's not talking about CBT, he means license restrictions on power etc until more experienced. Which I'm inclined to agree with.
How I didn't kill myself or others in my teens/early 20's I'll never know.
