Hey Sam, i know i am a traiter to the 8v. If you can't beat them - join them ! I loved the 8v but was getting a bit tired on 136k and the gti cropped up with a 80k engine. The group n mounts are staying when i fit the 16v.

Been tatting with the car again yesterday.

Firstly i am going to be binning the xsi cable driven clocks as they frustrate me sooo much with the speedo wobbling all over the shop. So here are the gti clocks placed in place of the xsi:

With the old cable driven clocks:

And mileage adjusted to reflect the car:

I fitted the clocks today and lead a wire from the gauges to the vss on the back of the gearbox.

Also the majority of S1 16v Conversions don't bother wiring in any form of diagnostic port so they haven't a clue when engine lights pop up but i am wiring in a obd2 socket which i will be mounting on the dash somewhere.

Obd which will be mounted in dash.

A few nights ago i started the 16v. After a failed attempt because of flat battery she kicked into life.

Quick pic of how she stands as of last night

Few jobs to still do :

Buy and fit new gti throttle cable (after i destroyed the original)
Fit / modify rad top hose
Make up bracket for airbox
Wire up obd port and vss to dials
Fit alternator

Sure theres a few other jobs but im in no rush

Think ive found out why josh

The fans are designed to be mounted one way and the blades are inefficient if its mounted on the wrong side of the rad

Undo the 1)mm centre nut flip the blade jobs a good un
however it seems they just lob them.together any old howand expect you to knoe this with no instructions

You just need to switch the wires over to make sure it's spinning the correct way Alex, mine was spinning the correct way and still ran hot when in traffic (didn't cut out like yours though). Small motor + shit blades in the fan = not enough air through the rad, pretty simple tbh

Josh the blades can be rotated aswel, tried mine both ways round and again with the wiring and there was a noticeable difference.
No issues atall once it was setup right.

Lol typical eBay shit! I'll be getting the biggest fan I can get anyway with anyway.

We're going to the ring around July time, if you put your name down on the list in the west mids section Ste then I'll let you know as soon as they confirm the schedule for July

Finally an update !

After just over a year of the 106 being sat up at my parents house i decided it was time for my 106 to have a change of scenary. And my parents to have there drive/grass back.

Its finally about time i got this car finished/on the road

The car was bound for the garage of my new house.

And at its new home

Tonight i removed the std manifold and fitted a raceland 4-2-1

Std

10 mins later

And held in place with 1 bolt

Still under decided on which approach i should take with this car. To leave it fully stripped out or to get some carpet back in to make it a bit more road friendly.
