Factory settings?...
Right my laptop only works in safe mode. On the normal startup it just freezes and i can't do anything. I've saved all my important stuff on it onto disks so now i really want to wipe the thing back to factory settings but i still need windows xp installed because i haven't got the disk to re-install it. Just wandering if anybody knows how i can do this?
Rep for help

Rite I can actually use the computer now but i can't do a lot of things like connecting to the internet. I've un-installed and reinstalled it but i still can't get it to work. When i log on i'm also getting quite a lot of error messages too
Still want to wipe the system tho and get it back to factory settings. Has anybody ever use software like this?.... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...ory_oid=-27703

by the look of that, you will still have to reinstall your OS to it. So your no better off.
ok just had a little read on the developers sit, and looks like you can get away with it, but it wont fix your problem, just permanently delets files, like bank statments, for when you sell the computer etc.

Did you install new software/hardware just prior to it booting into Safe Mode? Can you remember what caused it to go into Safe Mode?

Uninstalled and reinstalled what?
What kind of error messages?
If you format your machine, you will need either a system restore disc (although you say you've lost yours) or an OS CD of some kind. Insert, format hard drive - installed OS and then install everything else you need

Right press F8 go into safe mode
Right Click on My Computer goto manage
On left hand side there is Event Viewer expand it with the little plus sign
You sould see Application Security System
Click on Application see how many red cirtical errors there is and post in forum will try to help
Do the same with System as well
Also unplug any Usb Pens scanners or printers when booting up aswell
Also have you plugged any new hardware in to the laptop that might have corrupted
Have you tried a system restore to when it was working
To activate a restore
Start
Run
in the run box type restore press enter
Mr Tech pm if you like or keep posting

Best bet fook software of, fuck system restall, back up all your music, make sure you have disk or atleast software u can aquire for all the things installed, and just reinstall XP, if tis a genuine disk, you can do a repair instead of a re-install which will keep all your drivers and documents!
