Cheers guys. it's a tough time at the moment but were all pulling together and getting through it.

Any ways, I don't want to get bogged down in the emotional gubbins too much on here. So...

Yeah, the rust is a bit bad but I had a word with this welder lad i've met and he reckons he did a 106 the other week. You couldn't tell it had been welded after it was sprayed up! And it should only be £50 for that and the seat rails! bonus!

I still need a driveshaft as the guy I was meant to be getting one off, didn't get back in touch so it looks like he's missed out on some cash. I honestly don't know why some people bother telling you they have stuff if it seems like they can't be bothered to actually sell the stuff! Oh well... His loss!

This week i will be making an effort to get the driveshaft on, gearbox oil filled up, front end all sorted and get the back ends swapped over! I need to get it done as one of my mates pointed out... I've got 4 weeks to get it finished!

Considering it needs MOTing and then some tax and insurance I think I'd best get a shift on too!

Just ordered the new driveshaft and i'll get the gearbox oil tomorrow too.

Keep forgetting I can get discount at Europarts so new driveshaft was 45 quid!!! Hehehe.

Driveshaft has arrived. Unfortunately I forgot to get the gearbox oil. I'll pick some up tomorrow and try and get some work done in the evening before I have to go out!

Fingers crossed for a nice early dart!

Not a whole hell of a lot has happened this week... In fact NOTHING has been done to the car. I've had NO motivation this week what with everything that has been going on!

This weekend I WILL get the front end rebuilt and the back end dropped off!!! I will, I will, I will!!!!

I then need to spend some time next week sanding the interior so I can paint it after the rail has been welded in. I also need to get the hole looked at and welded too!

as soon as that's sorted I can put the engine bay back together, get the beam swapped and she's done I think. I got some gearbox oil today... I hope it's the right stuff! :-/

Anyway. I'll try and get my head out of my arse this weekend as I've GOT to have it MOT'd within the next 14 days!!!!

Payday is the 26th, so I'm hoping I will get enough to get it taxed and insured too!

Fingers crossed!!!

Right.

Got out into the garage after the F1 today for a bit. Managed to get the driveshaft on, the wishbones fitted (but not yet tightened up) and everything looking ready for some new callipers which I hopefully will be going to collect tomorrow (fingers crossed for a nice early dart!).

Once I've collected them, I need to get them fitted and fit the new pads I have. Then, I can get the front of the VTR jacked up, the wheels off and fit them to the VTS so I can drop it onto the wheels and tighten the driveshaft nut as the TD's have removable centre caps, unlike the VTR wheels that will be on the VTS.

Once they are tightened up I can get the ARB and wishbone bolts all tightened up then put the TD's back on the VTR.

Then it's onto the rear beam swap!

OH and the small hole I found under the ECU turned into this when I gave it a tap with my small knocking stick!

What the best way to sort this? Anyone give me an indication of how much i'd need to chop back so the guy I know can weld a plate in. I want to do as much as poss to keep costs down.

HELP!!!!

chop all the rust out!!
i still see loads, the welds wont stick to rust lol

depends if hes going to patch it, or cut it all out and then weld to metal.
keep cost down: patch then just you just cut all the shitout from underneath(when finished) then krust and waxoil.

ill pm you a pic

Cheers Aaron. I've not used the guy before so I don't know what he's going to think.

The rest of the rust you can see in the pic seems to be just surface and should be treatable.

I hope!!!

Cool, I've had a few PM's to tell me it's not too bad. I'm really glad that this should be an "easy" fix.

I'll see what the lad can do for me. I want him to weld in some seat rails too so his work is mounting up lol.

Which bring me to another point... Lads that have weld in rails. Do they weld level with the top of the exhaust tunnel? I've cut the box section to roughly the correct length (a bit over, just in case) I've not got round to mocking them up yet though.

The car's SORN at the mo so the welder guy is a mobile lad

I have some 25mm box section. I hadn't thought about spreader plates. I'e seen a few lads without them... or they were smoothed in very well

Okay, well looks like I need some spreader plates making up. What sizes should I be after?

I can't remember how think the box section is. probably about 1mm?

This lads quoted me about £40 so not too bad. Like I say, I'd like to see if he can weld in the seat rails too so I reckon about another £20 or so.
