Well, I've spent all evening moving the entire contents of our ground floor, upstairs so the guys can get on with the DPC tomorrow. I'm knackered now!

Looking forward to getting these spacers off Rich and getting a shift on with these last few bits. Hopefully tomorrow evening should be a good update.

List:
Fit spacers
Fill gearbox with oil
Replace drivers side strut
Fit callipers and discs
Mount seat to frame
Refit switches etc
Tidy wiring inside
Clean windows inside and out
Position cameras and test
Wash

Relax!

Looking forward to getting the transporter and getting loaded up ready for Sunday now.

Such an awesome read this thread much better than any progress thread i have read before on here...

Im currently building my track car on a budget but i havent set an exact limit brief spec and price list is as follows il upload some pics from my first outing in it...

106 gti- £300 complete with 2"pugsport&group n engine mounts already stripped out with front gti leather seats and harneseses...sadly no t&t (not a massive problem as i have a flatbed) gearbox nackered and needed a rad and windscreen

£20windscreen
£30rad
£140 gearbox and clutch (ax gt box)
£120 for buckets and harnesses
£100 gti6 brakes and greenstuff pads
£40 205 gti speedlines
£170 omp 6point cage (not yet fitted)

Things i already had were powerflex exhaust hangers, quicjshift kit, tyres for the alloys

I removed as much weight as possible all heater ducting sound deadening from behind dash and engine washer bottle sunroof and plated it off then i serviced it im still under 1k on parts so im realy happy but ive just bought some group n billies a b&m quickshift and paid to have cage welded in after that im wanting some good rubber and polycarb windows to get rid of wipermotors and glass also just got a non ps setup for it

Hopefully see you on track next year
Sabelt steering wheel,jp4 cam covers

Looks like a good list mate.

I'd look at suspension and chassis stiffening first before even buckets and a cage. So get the billies fitted then get bushes for the rear beam, front wishbone mounts and rear wishbone mounts. That way the chassis is as good as it can be straight off the bat.

Once thats sorted i'd look at fitting the seats and cage. Essentially the seats and cage are just safety devices. If your new to the track then your not going to be going full tilt into every corner etc so the safety devices aren't THAT important... Granted ANYONE can roll a car at any speed given the right circumstances but your less likely to on your first trip out (awaits horror stories!)

I'd also suggest the yellowstuff pads or if you have enough money the Mintex M1144's. I've got a set of the mintex on the VTR at the moment and they are unbelievably good stoppers! Them coupled with the bigger 283 discs would rip your face off into the corners!

Other than that, it looks good Just keep the shell looked after and treat any rust before it's too late and you should have your self a decent motor that you'll enjoy.

Also once the basics are done THEN get out in it a good few times before making it faster... What's the point of belting into a corner at 90mph if you have to stop on the brakes to drive round it at 20 because you don't know the lines or handling of the car yet

Theirs a quote... Anyone can drive a fast car, not anyone car drive a car FAST!

This is what i'll be doing over the coming year. Getting the chassis sorted to how I want it then learning a few tracks. Anglesey will probably be the main one I go to as it's cheap and relatively close. Once I start to get bored around that track i'll look into making it faster I think :/

Spacers on the rear!!!!!!!! Looks better as well as clearing the ends of the beam now! lol

Getting the gearbox oil in now and changing the passenger side calliper while I'm at it.

Fingers crossed, i'll get this finished today then do the drivers side tomorrow.

Just hire a lid mate. £10 for the day remember. get the seat and harness in then do the ICV. Sort some tires and strip it last of all.

At least that way, if you run out of time the cars running okay and lets face it, it's not going to be slow with the cams in

Mines just the standard lump with the BMC and exhaust that I had on the VTR last time.

tbh, I don't think they will do. The track is that close to the sea that they hardly ever get snow. According to a lad I work with the lives up the road from the track, They didn't get much snow when the rest of the UK was at a standstill!

Also, the Met office is saying their will be snow on Saturday but not on Sunday. So any that does fall will be well gone before we get there.

We may run into some snow on the way through to the hotel though.

Are you stopping over or driving down on the day?

Hope all goes well for you man!

Try the coastal circuit the next time you book one - I find it 100 times better than the GP! What tyres you using for the day Alan? I think your going to struggle to get heat into the tyres due to the cold temperatures - just heat cycle the tyres a fair bit!
