Lol, It's alright for some hehehe
I prefer the born-in-a-barn look though. Rough is the new smooth
I'm trying to get psyched about stripping a car to bits... Finding it hard at the mo with all the crap weather and the house stuff we need to do. Just got to get out into the garage and get cracking on though.
Fingers crossed we'll get some good luck and weather and i'll get shifting on it!

To be honest alanapone, its not exactly "that" hard to build a kit up yourself. you obviously have that mechanical common sense about you, so fitting would probably be easier than you might think. The only thing you really need to put time into is deciding spec and researching everything that's needed like parts/where things go etc.
hope the shell is in good nick. will be a shame to see the vts go though as i presume you will scrap it?

Yeah, I guess I could manage to get a kit all bolted up and running without too much hassle, like you say, it's just getting the spec you want decided and sourced. As for the VTS. The shell is pretty much mint now I've sorted a bit of a hole under the ECU tray. I'd like to say that the VTR shell is going to be in a similar condition BUT I am very dubious about it... Don't know why, I've just got a feeling that I'll end up chopping up yet another Maritius Blue shell If I do then this one will stay until I can either source a good condition blue shell or I get it resprayed lol
I'm in the middle of refurbishing the cylinder head on the girlfriends Golf GTi so as soon as that is sorted and put back together (hopefully next weekend) I can get the VTR into the garage and start striping it down.
I've got a for sale thread up with just a load of stuff i've got lying around in the garage on it that I NEED to get rid of. I'm going to give everything about a month to sell then if it's not gone, I'll just pile it all together and wait to get it all weighed in.
I'm kind of looking forward to getting the VTR stripped so I can really see what state she's in. I'm just hoping she's only in need of a bit of tlc. :-/

Well, been very quiet for the last month or so.
Finally got the headgasket sorted on Nic's Golf GTi. It's now developed a random cutting out problem but I think it's just a relay that's a common fault on them. It's getting insured tomorrow so I'll be able to take it out for a blast and see if it cuts whilst driving or just idling. Might even just get the relay tomorrow as there only a few quid!
Other updates are as follows...
Were expecting a little baby girl in July!!! Were both very excited and VERY scared all at the same time! The house is slowly filling up with tons of baby stuff! People have already commented that all my toy's will have to get sold once it's here... No fucking chance! lol.
As if having a baby wasn't stressfull enough, we've also decided that we need to move house. This is mostly due to the fact that I refuse to bring any child of mine up next door to gobshites like we live next too and in the area that we live in too.
So, as of this weekend we will be moving back to Warrington! The house is a bit smaller that what were in at the moment and is a terrace and doesn't have a garage BUT it's loads cheaper to live in and the car insurance premiums were getting quoted is worth the move alone! The track car MAY be road going soon
As for the cars...
Well, The VTR is getting stripped out ready to be looked at and evaluated on it's worthiness to be saved. I've got a feeling there are some horrible patches of rust on it so I need to cast an eye over it when it's completely stripped out. All the stuff off it bar the rear beam and brakes will be sold off. If it doesn't sell it' will be piled into the back of the red car and await the weighbridge.
IF the blue shell is worth spending some time and effort on, I'll be doing the welding that it needs and hopefully getting some paint on it to tidy up the patches and rough areas. If it's not worth saving then it will be chopped into a neat little package, piled on a trailer with the stuff that no-one buys off me and taken to a friendly scrap yard in Warrington where it will generate some cash.
The cash I get for the parts I sell or scrap needs to go towards the following:
Semi-Slicks,
Cage,
PH3's,
Headwork.
I'd be pretty happy with that lot on the car for a few track sessions.
Well.... Here's hoping things go well over the next month or so

You checked to see if there is any recalls on your Golf? I can check for you as I work at VW (till Friday anyway when I'm being made redundant lol) if you want me to check before then, just drop me a PM, otherwise just call your local VW and ask them to check cos there was one for the ignition coils on certain Golfs. They are done free of charge as well so can't complain if you do have one.

Fulch, it's a mk 3 golf. I have heard that the coil could have an issue but when it dies I can hear a relay clicking. The common fault ones are relay 30 and 167 IIRC. I've already replaced the 167 so the 30 is next. If that doesn't do it then the coil followed by the crank sensor is next on the list.
Mark, as soon as I get this stuff sold I'll look into cages and tyres a bit more although 14 will be what I use for the track for sure! Couldn't believe the price difference from 15 to 14's.
Just need people to buy stuff. To be honest as well, I'm not too fussed at the mo as I need to worry about the move first.
Slowly but surely, it should all come together over the next few months I hope.

WELL.................................
Long time, not much progress!!
Since I last updated, we have finally moved back to Warrington. We've pretty much got everything sorted that we need for the baby. we just need to set it all up, finish unpacking a few bits and peices and were done in the house.
I've finally fixed Nic's Golf so were happy about that. He managed to get us to the Bolton Abbey and back today without a hitch! Well chuffed with that!
ANY ROAD.... We've got back and I've been motivated again to dig out the track car from the pile of parts that is our yard at the minute! The old VTR is being devoured by the rust monster SO, all the bits and bobs are up for grabs off that. I'm going to put the nice new rear beam onto the track car and swap the front callipers over and use the 266's as they will fit the VTR rims on so I can try and find some cheap semi slicks. everything else off the VTR is for sale or will be scrapped.
SO, the plan is:
17th JUNE,
FCS,
The hotel and tickets are booked... as is a track slot SO:
The VTS needs to be fitted with the rear beam.
Some rear brakes.
The 266mm carriers.
Some new brake lines to the rear need to be done as the ones that are fitted had to be cut to get the old beam off.
New front wheel bearings.
MOT.
TAX.
Insurance!
Not much then! Just a lot of money needed again! I NEED to sell the parts off the VTR otherwise I may be trailering it again!
Fingers crossed everything goes to plan.

Managed to get the rear beam fitted over this weekend. Just need to change the handbrake cables and redo the brake lines as I had to cut them to get the old beam off. Got the billies fitted to the beam along with the new pads and discs.
I also found a slightly friendly garage round the corner that understands it's a track car and will do an MOT for me. It turns out this lad used to do a lot of trackdays when he was younger so he might be a bit gentle on me
Either way, at least i'll know the car is good to go.
So next up is:
Order wheel bearing,
Replace hand brake cables,
Refit rear bias valve,
Re-run brake cables and connect up,
Drain old brake fluid,
Fill with new DOT 5.1 fluid.
Got 5 weeks to do it all and get it MOT'd

Good work fella
I too found a track friendly tester!
Your car is coming along nicely!
I just need an exhaust and I'm sorted!

I've got an exhaust for the track already but the normal one that will need to be fitted for the MOT is off a mk2 so doesn't have a cat in it. I need to swap it for a mk1 as I've got a cat here and some backboxes, just need the centre section.
The rest of the car at the minute is still in a bit of a state. I'm just trying to concentrate on getting it through the mot now rather than starting to do bits and peices to make it look a bit neater. I'll be getting the passenger seat next weekend all being well so then I'll need to sort another harness out, then I'll need to have proper plates fitted for the harness eyelets etc. it's just a long bloddy list of things to do with not much time to do them.
And on top of all that, i STILL have loads of parts off the VTR to sell and get moved before I can even get the car out of the yard!

I just got the impression that he knows what the score is so if something NEEDS doing then he'll tell me but as he knows what these cars can be like i.e. airbags removed etc. he might be able to turn a blind eye. If not, i'm not too arsed anyway as at least i'll know that the car is bob on when it's done. To be honest, I think it should go through okay. I'm just a bit nervous about having no interior and a little bit of rust at the rear jacking points. Nothing major just rust makes me nervous!
