I could be interested in some high compression ones with that price. Just need some advice on sizes etc. Will be going on standard rods

Hi all, I take it if your having your bottom end rebuilt it's worth getting the oversized one's as I'll be unsure if it will need any work done?
Millsy from 106oc btw.

Welcome to sax-p m8e
Without having your bottomend stripped and examined there is no way of knowing 100% if you require re-honing or not, its a difficult choice to make, as I have decided I am going to the GREAT expence of having the bottomend re-honed I have chosen to go for 79mm pistons.
Hope the above helps.

I think what I'm going to do is eventually send my bottom end to QEP, and get them to basically deck the block, and then hone/re-bore the bores suitable for 79mm pistons (may even send them the pistons to make sure the bores are right for them)

Thanks for confirming it's a good price Gav, knew it was from my little research I've done, good to see someone who has been looking into pricing of bits for a few years now confirms everything

I think (I welcome being corrected) you can re-hone and fit standard pistons (as you're removing the 'glaze' on the walls) but you could find that the cylinder has a light score so would benefit from a bit more material being removed.
Also, is fairly cheap to get a bottom end 2nd hand nowadays - so I wouldn't worry too much about it!
I think 79mm is a nice compromise personally

The actual machining is cheap in comparsion to how much labour is involved in sending it away to be done, the engine has to be stripped down FULLY then re-assembled with new pistons, headgasket, shell, big end bearings etc etc, its not a small job!!!
