Fair few things have happened to this now:

Apex springs went to Gmax shocks along with new droplinks
DS2500 racing pads
VTS radiator and twin fan conversion
Upper Strut brace fitted
Decat, straight through centre section and Scorpion Imola backbox fitted
Corbeau GT buckets fitted on subframes made by benwh555 (cheers mate, spot on these were)
Half roll cage fitted in the rear
Luke 3 point harnesses
adjustable Spax rear shocks fitted
New brake lines from front to back
Lowered 60mm 106 GTi beam with the 22mm anti roll bars

To do

Just needs some new rear disks and pads as im not happy with the condition of the current ones
Bit of fan wiring and tidying of the bay loom
CAF needs fitting to the air filter
Battery being put back in on its mount
Racing 5.1 brake fluid needs adding then oils and coolant

Heres some pics, the final one in the same place everything began, and yes I still need to remove the tape player haha!

New rear brakes have arrived plus a new fitting kit as the springs can be a pain once they are old and dont sit correctly (same a the 182 on the rear so i've got first hand experience of them!). Ive chose oem standard disks over a drilled/grooved option as I feel its not really needed on the rear and I want to do some tests to see what performance is like on standard disks all round but just with better pads.

Cargo netting and rad pipe is on the way too, also looking into fitting an oil temp gauge from the sensor already in the xsi sump

Brakes are on with Ferrodo pads in the rear and fitted last friday.

However the headgasket has decided to fail so a new one will be put on asap!

Was waiting for my valve spring compressor to come via mail order before I could start on the head but my dad turned up with one tonight so we took the valves out. Going to have the head resurfaced and tested tomorrow, then back together with new stem seals and nicely cleaned and ground in valves.

Heads back from the machine shop - had it refaced and the guy took the oil seals off too so that was good all for £25.

Also my mate got these delivered for me - some new Toyo Proxes 888s and super clean 205 gti speedlines so they should make the car handle a bit better for track use:

Ground the valves in today and then put the valves back in the head with new stem seals:

Will be going back on the car tomorrow

After a few issues with this engine I've finally got it running with a new head gasket, valves cleaned and ground in again plus new oil seals and I had to give it a flush of the oil system as the oil was really mullered, took a fair amount to get it clear.
Seems to run fine on the VTR injection setup which is good but I'll have to test it on the road. I've added a new filter and elbow and taken the airbag ecu out so no more warnings of it being missing.

Other things on the too do list are:
Sort a blowing manifold to decat (lazyness on my part there!)
Bleed the brakes using 5.1 motal fluid I got for free
Install the oil temperature gauge
Paint the road set of wheels ford graphite grey
Tidy up and clean the interior and brake pipes under the car
Route the cables in the bay a little more tidily
Sort the twin fan wiring
General bodywork tiding

Done some more to this now: put a new VTS spec radiator in it and a new water pump which was a nightmare to get out mind you! Flushed the oil system out and its now got some nice 5W40 fully synthetic in it so that should help a bit.
I wired in my twin fans on a switch on the dash too as I was sick of them not working, then I bled up the brakes - nice 20 minute job with the Easy Bleed kit!
I trial fitted the toyo R888s but they scrub a little so will have to do some bodywork fettling.

One rather manky original water pump vs new one:

VTS Spec rad:

Fitting the track wheels:
