Important! : Power steering pipe help - Saxperience

So driving home this evening and what seems lost power steering gone totaly stiff poped the bonnet and fluieds evrywhere.

From what I can see its tricking out the metal pipe. Can this metal pipe be replaced or is this a whole unit and needs full pipes replacing.

How to disable pump please as I dont want to burn this out while driving with no power steering until fixed.

Any advise on how to remove old as this looks a pain in the ass to remove a lot of stuff.

Looking at the gray area on this looks identical as to whats happened to mine and along the gray part pipe is split guessing due to rubbing on other metal. Is this a small and cheap enough job or gonna cost me?

To replace I would find either a scrapyard or somebody scrapping a car, you could take them to a hydraulic firm to make some up, but I suspect they will be very expensive. There is a connector to disconnect the pump somewhere under the battery, can't remember exactly where.

Price condition mk1 or mk2 and location ? if too far can you post. And trying to find exactly what one it is later today. Not sure if low preasure one or high. gonna get some fluid and see where leak coming from. If its a pin size is it wroth grabbing some leak stop in it or gonna cause more problems.

Also how hard are these to change or take off and inspect?

I personally would not consider any type of sealent you might as a temporary measure be able to put another piece of pipe over it & clamp/tape it on place. Or cut pipe put a bit of metal pipe between & jubilee clip up, but these are temp jobs not a solution

From what seen looks like gonna have to bend the pipe when get replacement for it or find mk 1 as reading up seeing their shaped different and fit wel

usual reason is suspension lowwred and then it catchs steering arm --a small bend usually makes it clear --other reason is track rods ends fitted wrong way up + lowered suspension

forget trying to make temporary repair --they never work

How do you tell if track rod ends are fitted wrong way up? and in process of getting a replacement set off here or eabay.

sorry not wrong way up but l/h one on right hand side +vice versa --that will move track back towards the rack if wrong way

Gonna have a look tomorrow to see if on wrong way thx for the picture expains a lot too. Mine are not as bad as that it does have some clearance to it whe nstrght but whe ntruning on full lock clockwise its a lot closer and am tihinking is causing it to foul it when hitting bumps or pot holes.

If it is teh case with them on wrong way are they simple to swop around? Would it be worth grabbing a new set ?

I see the nut is set at some length does this need to be marked down or are they all set the same when bought or need to be adjusted to speck?

No you will have to mark them up & get them back to the same length, you really ought to go get it tracked once done if you want your tyres to survive

well had a look at track rod ends their on the correct way around. And pushing down so car moves up n down seems to be knocking pipe work.

From looking at it I need to bend the new one when I get it about 2incs back. Is this going to be too far to bend out the way? Could the actual rack bar be bent or warped in some way causing it to foul the pas pipework?

High Pressure power steering pipe - used in conjunction with power steering pump relocation bracket to extend standard O/E pipe.

would this be worth getting or not going to solve or make any better.

Now resolved thx for the info guys. Have managed to get one off scrappers for £10 and think its mk1 as I had a look more clearance but was not a problem anyway. Took too a guy who I know and has since heated pipe re shaped it so I have now about 4inc of clearance so bags of room to go lower if I decide too.
