Modifying Standard Air intake box...
Hi.
Been looking through many threads about filters. Came to the conclusion that i am going to get a green panel filter from kam.
When i was reading up through old threads i saw that people were saying to modify the standard air intake box by driling holes, getting rid of parts etc.
Im wondering do panel filters give any increase in noise? Also does drilling holes etc help?
And is it good to use the standard intake box or create a new cold air feed?
Basicly just looking for some ideas / suggestions on way to improve the standard air intake and also some more info if anyone has any about panel filters?
Thanks.

i have a panel filter on my vts..... dont drill holes in it.... you wont get any noise from a panel filter, that whats exhuast are for imo.... panel filter in standard airbox is worth it no hot air drawn in and a decent price

Im lookin to do exactly same thing mate... i was going to get viper induction cause i nievely thought it was the best but most ppl jus sayin it not worth it get a panel filter and remove the restrictor thing on the box and plastic weld over the gap.. a guide on this would be useful .... i was thinkin of getin one of those aluminium air feeds but i also heard there no better than the standard piping cause the abs plastic shields heat better... there are tons of opinions on this matter n i think a guide ( sticky ) would help a Sh*t load of ppl.....

hey guys just read through this and have posted some help on a similar thread about having a pannel filter...
"iv gone down the route of a pannel filter and it has worked well i cant say iv got massive gains but the air flow is so much better! i have used K&N and put a piper x air hose directly onto the air box that has been sealed up
here is a pic of my pannel filter
and a pic of the piper x hose going to the front of the bonnet area
hope this helps"
the K&N filter cost £38, piper x air hose £19, all in all not expensive and has done the job well. car fells alot free'er and runs alot cooler when moving.

Got a question, do you know the actual tubing that goes to the front og the engine bay, that air intake, is there anyway you can enlarge / make it better?

Im really loving that piper-x ducting pipe.
I have the round box and after the filter its more of an oval shape so what will i have to do or will it just fit to shape.

Not that it matters now but I had a 2001 1.1 desire with a round pannel filter, not flat...

it has the first air box above which is the box shaped one with ridges yet it has an oval shapped round filter inside which has confused me...but with it it runs alot better than an air filter i had on (k&n) but what's confusing is its the the '01 onwards box yet round inside.
my vtr is x reg btw..

Doesnt seem to be an awful lot of difference diameter wise between the standard intake hosing and modified bits?
any size difference/gains?
