Early S2 twin chassis plug 16v conversion - plug and play? - Saxperience

Hi all - I have a 1.1 1997 S2 106 that I plan on 16v'ing - have already bought the engine etc. My 106 has the early S2 small twin plug engine loom (one black and one gray plug). By the grace of god, the engine I have bought (see pic below) has the same loom! The male side of my current loom has all 23 pins and the female engine side (being a 1.1 XN) has some of the pins un-used - see below again. What I would like to know is: will my 16v engine and loom be a simple plug and play job with no splicing? The gray chassis plug is not even used at the min (according to info on here it is the oil level and gauge - which my 16v loom has). My reasoning is backed up be there being a 16v twin plug loom for sale at the moment on ebay that looks exactly the same as the current loom in my car! (again see below.) Any help would be great!

The GTI loom currently on the Bay that looks to be exactly the same as my currently installed one!

That's all good to go for plug and play mate you don't need any splicing for that.

Awesome, just what I wanted to hear! Should have the conversion done in a day then. Out of interest, will my keypad immobilizer still work?

Also will GTI clocks fit straight into my current loom and work? Currently have the poverty spec clocks with no aux gauges and a time clock where the tacho would be in a GTI. Thanks!

Out of interest, how much did that engine cost?! That Adam wiareck guy had it on eBay for like £600. He hasn't a clue what he's on about either

Did a deal for the GTI rear beam he has and the engine, box, mapped ECU, loom, shafts and all the other little bits to do the conversion for £600 - beam looks a good one and there is proof that the engine is cammed and making 147bhp so I was happy paying that - my 106 was free so that is all the conversion stands me at

Keypad wont work, you need to make sure you disconnect the immobiliser box inside the car before plugging the new ECU in or you will lock it unless its had the pins removed.

Clocks should plug straight in too.

Lovely stuff - out of interest, in twin plug S2's, is the wiring loom the same in a GTI as it is in the 1.1? Just lots of un-used plugs and wires in the 1.1?

they unscrew, bracket is welded to the chassis leg

Hey Furioman,

Thanks for the info. Mine it might got stuck, cause I've tried to twist it but I couldn't free up. I thought that I have to do sumtin to the crown like plastic ring with a white line on it.
So just keep trying twist the plug? I want to spray the chassis and that bracket, but first I have to clean it from dirt and rust.

twist harder. its just a locking threaded collar. Unscrewing it will drive the two halves apart but if theyve never been apart they can be sticky

Hey guys,
Thanks for the help: Some penetration oil, a flat head screwdriver tapping, screwing back and forward and loadsa patience got me to unscrew the plug after half an hour of battle.
Finally the chassis and the bracket is sanded, treated with rust converter and painted with primer. Yeah!
