As prep for Cadwell I fitted a terrible sunstrip, obviously the UK in December will be very sunny!

Also, the £3 sun strips from ebay are utter poo, don't buy them, the vinyl sort of shatters when you cut it!

I'll mask the horror with some sort of awesome scene stickers!

So we were at Cadwell again on Saturday, Matt was already down there with his missus for a sexy weekend so he loaded the car up pre sauce romp and was already down there.

I loaded the sax up with commute disaster essentials and headed down at 3AM, it was slightly fresh, but many layers + blankets and it was all good just bombing along listening to my ipod.

The track was frozen until about 11:30, there was much standing about, it was cold and stuff.

I'd commuted on comedy budgets and brought a set of Pilots with me (I think) but we went with the 888s, the fronts were pretty low, the rears okay.

It was all of the colds still so I left my tactical cardboard over the oil cooler, the track time did begin!

Basically after hall bends into the hairpin was slippy, from the hairpin to barn was slippy, and from the gooseneck down to mansfield was.

I was either carrying too much speed into the mansfield drop or braking too hard but I locked it up twice and handily went straight up the runoff.

I locked up a few times going into the hairpin too, but only a little.

I had an off at Park, I think because I had started to try 2nd rather than 3rd for this corner and basically unsettled the back of it, we did a sweet clockwise drift and ended up facing the wrong way on the infield grass.

It was also late on, and getting slippy again, but I put it down to my driving.

From the day I learned a few things, I brake hard, maybe too hard, I rely on the tyres a LOT (again possibly too much), and I engine brake hard.

I'm unsure if these are all bad things but I think both myself and Matt are going to look into tuition next year. 2 up in the car we were doing 2:05/06 lap times in wet and frozen conditions, which isn't that terrible really!

All in all another awesome day out, the Gaz suspension allowed us to carry a lot more speed up through coppice, again outbreaking is amazing in this thing, I dread to think how late I could leave it on wilwoods or similar.

Sounds like a good day. Shame it was sloppy but at least it's another type of track condition to have gotten to play with. Did you get any videos? Hope the offs didn't cause any damage either?

Tuition can't be a bad thing and at least you will get some feedback into your driving. I seem to be the opposite... Don't brake hard enough and haven't fully explored the tyres to know how I can push them. Next year will be a big learning curve for both of us from the sounds of it.

Great write up too mate.

I've not done Cadwell for years. Really need to get back! Had completely forgot about the lack of pit garages... Not nice at this time of year.

Glad it ran well and you got loads of track time.

I've seen so many vids of Cadwell im sure I know it like the back of my hand. Shame its so far away. Whenever I watch videos though theres a couple of places I wonder why people brake and dont just oversteer through the corner lol

It looks like the sort of place if you know what you are doing you can really keep up with the fast stuff too

My mate completely fucked up the entrance to the mountain and we ended up going up it backwards. That was, erm, interesting. A nice mix of corners, bit narrow, nice elevation changes, well worth the trip.

By all accounts it seems a great place to go. That downhill bit before mountain must KILL the brakes though!

The Gooseneck into Mansfield? You take some speed off before going in, and the corner at the bottom is reasonably quick, so it isn't too bad on brakes really. You do have to brake, but there are far worse stops out there!

I tried to drift Mansfield, nearly ended up in a fekkin' field. Bad idea!

888 are shit in cold and wet. The xsi has a few mm on still and slightest bit water it aquaplanes even at fairly low speeds do that won't have helped much if yours are low

Tyres were pretty good in the conditions I thought, however they're a different story before they're warmed, and I'd imagine it's tricky to get decent heat into them on the road.

Ran them in the wet at Knockhill before and they seemed pretty decent then as well
