I see! Can the umbrellas be used the other way round to reflect the light?
How much do studio lights go for?
I see where Ads is coming from for portability as the flashes run from batteries and wont need a power supply so can be used pretty much any where.

yes mate some umbrellas are diffusors which allow the light to pass through it, and others are used the other way round to reflect light and they are solid.
yup it depends what you are after really if you want it just for indoor use than that £120 (including postage) studio set is a pretty good starting point

One more quick question lol, whats the difference between the ubrella and softbox when your using the umbrella in that way?

thanks man... no lights were on other than a bit of ambient coming through the window. however because of the short DOF of the flash we were using the ambient couldn't be detected during the shoot.
The brollys fit on the flashes via a flash bracket/light clamp
no major difference... both pack away into little (albeit long) bags. using an brolly the other way around allows it to 'wrap' the light around the subject a bit better than a softbox... put it the way we had it makes the wrap-around less which makes for some interesting lighting suggestions. also it's more efficient for the light because of inverse square law theory (although its gay and doesn't need to be analysed in anyway.... all you need to know is that the more distance between a flash and subject the greater the reduction in its effective power. come closer it gets significantly stronger. etc etc

The top one it seems really soft around the chin area. I think if the face was sharp it would be much better. Personally im not too keen on the orientation of the picture.
Bottom one is really nice!
I did some pics for a friend yesterday, going to ask for permission to post them for C&C so will hopefully post up later.

think the top pic sayer just doesnt work in general, the angle etc... trying to put finger on it now.
The Dof might have something to do with it but she just doesnt look comfirtable.
which is a shame as she is a very pretty girl with stunning eyes (shes cute) lol
