Default Will car subwoofers be ok in a hi -fi system?

I have a CD player with big speakers etc. the Subwoofers in the speaker boxes are 8"

the rubber on the subwoofers has began to rip so i need some new subwoofers.

looking on the internet, i can only really find 8" subwoofers designed for cars.

will they be ok as my hi-fi speakers?

the only problem i can see is that car subwoofers are a lower impedance (4 ohms)

I don't really understand all the figures but i was looking at these on ebay-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-8-800W-CAR...item2c5d4820c8

thanks

It is the independance that is the problem. They will run but obviously not as well as you would want and probably blow your amp up lol I did it for fun once on a shitty stereo lol

If your amp can support the lower resistance then yes no issues. The lower resistance means the speaker will receive more power, this in turn means the amp works harder and can lead to issues if it's not designed to run at lower resistance

Should be easy to find out, look at the back of the speaker, on the magnet. Most have a sticker or print showing how many ohms it's running at. If it says 8 ohms, don't even think about putting 4 ohms in there,as most amps will cut out.

would also ask what speakers... if they are some b&w or bose etc then maybe replacements but otherwise a whole new set would be better maybe?
