Default No sound!

Right trusty saxp-ers i need your help!!

basically, ive linked my desktop up to the tv, to use the screen. However due to not having a set of speakers atm i basically want to run it off the speakers built into the tv unit.

Ive plugged the sound cable into both the back of the pc and into the correct hole on the back of the TV but when i play vids on youtube etc there is absolutely zero sound

However the weird thing is, that on start up, no sounds, vids, no sound, etc etc etc no sound. but on itunes - press play at it happily plays all the music.

is there somthing im missing here?!

Don't mean to state the obvious but are you sure the sound isn't muted on youtube or on whatever web browser you are using?

Also what does the color of the aux cable have to do with anything, I'm sure they come in all sorts of colors.

no ive definitely not got the volume levels done low LOL!! that was the first thing i checked - cause how else would itunes be working

also no sound when not plugged in at all.

its a single auxilliary cable with a green headphone size plug at either end; plugged directly from the back of the desktop to the sound input on the tv.
