Need some help from any web designers ?
Hi, basically me and a friend are in early stages of making our new site.
Its nothing majorly special, just an internet radio site. Im the designer, and we're both working on the HTML etc. Using frontpage by the way.
We have the logo etc, thats all good. Also we used a free site template from somewhere.
The thing we need help with is that the template looks different from my screen to his.
On my screen i can see the template in the middle and the background image shows up on the sides.
On his screen the template fills most his browser display up.
We was hoping there is a way of making it so that the site displays the same on on monitor / browsers.

That will depend on the browser and screen settings people use.
I'd imagine people see Saxp at different sizes in their browser.

yeh but the general site isnt halved is it ?
What i mean is the background pic were using only displays half the pic. I need it to be a general size on all browsers. Surely theres some code to enter to keep the picture the same size.

Don't know whether your using CSS or not, but I'm sure you could just set the sizes to Auto so that they scale up to whatever sized monitor your viewing it on.

Ide say skip the templates for now.
Everytime you hit a problem you wont be able to fix it.
Learn some basic CSS and build it from scratch. Or atleast this way you can learn why things happen.

I think weve sorted it guys.... CSS code and it seems to have done the trick. ( we havent actually implemented it yet so not 100 % sure )
WWW.VYBEZRADIO.CO.UK is the site. Intro page is fine, and shapes itself to any screen.
But the image on the home page wouldnt resize. You can see where it cuts off, if you zoome out a bit (dependant on your screen ) If i put a 1920x1080 image on background. it fits mint on my monitor, but on my mates it looks halfed, he has to zoom right out to see it.
Basically we wanted it the same as the intro page, to adapt automatically for people.
Sites under development and is basic at the min.

looks cool, you also tried it in different browsers because I had a problem to do with the layout in some CSS code before on one of my websites, it was fine in chrome but was all over the place in internet explorer

Ie is shit and chrome is starting to peak now, rendering of CSS on ie is truly shocking, a massive amount of people are still using xp and ie doesn't have an xp browser compatible with css3

Design in a lower resolution on your monitor. Thats what I always used to do, for people who don't have the hardware for those higher resolutions and resize your images accordingly. And fuck frontpage off. I used to use a combination of Namo web editor for basic stuff and Dreamweaver.

Its just a snippet of code to change the sizes and resoultions.
As said front page is old news but it think its good to get started in then just move on to dreamwever.
Alot of people these days cheat using jquery, templates that are already desgined etc so hats off to you for doing it yourself

Yeh im not a web designer bro im the sound man and graphics, were currently working on jingles n stuff thats my job but, mainly my mates doing all the coding and i did the design. He knows more than me but neither of us are all that into it.
The sites good enough for what we need. Most people just like to click a link, listen and have it simple........ You'de be amazed how many people sit at the intro screen going " yeah this station is sick " Why do you repeat the same song every 30 seconds tho ? " Click enter you tard !!

2 ways of doing it:
1) set a wrapper div that is a fix width and have everything inside it, like this for example:
#wrapper {
width: 1024px;
height: auto;
margin: 0px auto;
}
2) set values of 100% of everything, that includes HTML, body and containers. This way would fill the monitor regardless but will be much harder to design
If you need any help PM me I've been a web designer for a few years
