cold air feeds - what do I need to know?

Im planning on getting either a k&n panel filter or a green cotton. I hear that a cold air feed is a good idea.

Which ones should I be looking at and are the filter and air feed hard to fit for someone whos never worked on an engine?

if your just getting a panel filter, just leave the standard cold air feed on.

if using an induction bit or enclosed?

If you are just replacing the element its self then theres 2 options either leave it as a standard set up with the replaced filter or simply replace part of the standard pipework leading up to the air filter housing with a less restricting air intake piping. On a vts i wudnt even bother doing that tbh, just bang the replacement filter in the airbox and thats about the best you will get, even better than all the bullshit induction kits around promising this and that!!!

block the bottom hole in the airbox then run a feed to somewhere where there is cold air

is it really as easy as taking the standard one out and putting a new one in?

havent got a clue about engines or anything mechanical when it comes to cars

just passed my test and this will be my first car, well legal one and I didnt do any work to my old car myself

Im guessing that its the silver tube? lol

where would be a good place to run the feed to?

its the silver thing correct, looks as if that one might have had a hole in a light etc. for it.

With a VTR you can buy enclosed induction which comes with all the piping and stuff.

it is the silver tube yes! looks like that is routed to a fog-light or headlight
using a panel filter you do not need any sort of aftermarket ducting use that standard pipe work designed for the car

What i did was took the resonator box off, And ran a cold air feed from my slam panel to that. <<edit, the lower part of the slam panel.

So it's got the standard air feed to the top one.
And a cold air feed the the bottom one.

Nice induction noise, for pennys.

Best place for a cold air feed will likely be the standard intake on slam panel as its situated at an area of high pressure when car is being driven
