Default Laptop problem.

Got a laptop here, HP G6000. Screen has a major screen flicker / Horizontally scratched graphics across whole screen and it flickers to black and then back to hashed graphics.

Linked it up to an external monitor, nothing wrong with the output, it displays on my TV just fine.

Swapped the LCD cable just now, seeing as it was the next cheapest step, Problem is still here exactly the same.

I'm reading about HP laptops having an Nvidia Graphics chip problem (overheating) thus needing a re-ball.

Other than that I could try a new screen, but I think it will be a waste of money IMO. Few quid on a cable is worth a shot as opposed to 60 - 75 on a screen.

Anyone else have this problem and did it take a proper reball in the end to sort it ?

I've got a hp dv 9000 that had the exact same problem. Sorted out with a good clean of fans etc. then did the cheapo fix with a heat gun, added a copper shim to the gpu with good quality CPU paste. It's worked fine ever since.

Worth a try if you can get hold of a heat gun

I have one here. Fucked about with my xbox with it. It gave me 6 months usage.

Trouble is with heat gun, majority of the time it don't last forever. Sooner or later they do it again. But i know where your coming from. Problem lies with the Nvidia chip apparently. Getting to hot and losing connection. Common with Your laptop and this one i have. Bloody HP.

Aunt tells me today, before it died she heard a loud squealing noise. Im thinking maybe a capacitor went aswell or somet.

I used to repair laptops and sometimes the actual LCD panel was at fault. Get some GPU burn it software test and plug your tv into the external port then make sure its displaying at as higher res as possible for the tv then leave the test running for about an hour see if theres any problems if not then its not overheating.

Yeh, that was actually on my mind, push the graphics to the limit and see whats cooking on the external display.

Everythings telling me it might be the nvidia problems, but im also thinking why would it output perfect graphics to the external. Weird.
