The spanner sign is a telling you how many miles till it needs a service And it might be the idol control valve but someone correct me if I'm wrong

Not sure if its the same on all saxo's but on my old one the number used to vary, sometimes it would say 5000, others 200 and it would just jump somewhere roughly between them, so you might just want to service it yearly rather than relying on that.

not sure how to reset the spanner though - someone else might be able to help you.

and it does sound like your stepper motor is on the way out

U can reset the service indicator spanner by pushing in the small stick on the speedo then turning on the ignition, keep the stick pushed down for about ten seconds then it will reset

Itll be either the ICV or the MAF sensor thats causing the dodgy idle and cutting out.
