Default PC problem

MY PC has problem with starting up;

When it gets to the stage after i have logged in (typed password, then hit enter) it will stay on the welcome page, continuously loading. i left this for about 6 hours while i was at work so i no i'm not being impatient.

I then turn the computer off by holding the power button for at least 5 seconds.

I am currently writing this on safe mode with networking

Run a scan on your hard drive if you can, or get someone to do it for you if you know of anyone. There is a good chance it could be your hard drive failing. It is worth trying a repair first though as stated above.

Right well, I actually just did a system restore from about 4 days ago and all seems fine now. I will look into that anti virus and will also run a scan on my harddrive aswell.

Cheers though guys

could be worth seeing whats on your desktop?
i know some people who feel the need to store 10's of GB's on the desktop, which is a big nono. when you're back into it, see about backing everything up onto a seperate hard drive, and possibly reinstalling windows.

Was going to say its unlikely your HDD is going as when you boot into safe mode it does a CRC check which checks for errors, you will not get past this stage often if the HDD is fubar'd.

Recommendations for scanning:

Avast antivirus
Malware Bytes antimalware (very good)

Ensure you turn off system restore though otherwise it will load the viruses on next boot.
