It is yes. It is actually this low...
There's about 5mm between the floor and the subframe.

These golfs are crazy, the underside hangs like 4 metres lower than the sills. Must be annoying when people say it isn't low, when judged by the sills.
Remember looking under it at Trax last year and thinking, 'oh it is low'.

It's a shed load lower than Trax last year lol Most cars such as Saxo's, Fiesta's etc... have the floor, the subframe attached to that and then the sills hang lower than the floor and subframe.
Mk2 Golfs don't have this. The sills are level with the floor and then the subframe is attached to the floor making it the lowest point by about 3 - 4 inches.
You really cannot get a Mk2 Golf to have low sills. There is just to much important stuff lower than the sills.

Right then, update time.
After having one of my splits fall apart last week, I immediately tore it down. The morning after I was on the phone with Image Wheels who informed me that the bolts should be torqued up to 13NM. I unbolted another bolt and it was done to 40NM!! Over three times what it should be.
Anyway, I sealed the wheel and put it back together with brand new bolts. I had a minor air leak through one of the split bolts but it is now sorted *Touches wood*
Just a single photo of me and a friend with his Mk1.
Attending a local meet tonight so hopefully a few more photos to come.

Have you checked the other wheels to see if they have been over tightened too?

The guy in the MK1 looks like he has an oversized head.

A big step backwards and a few small steps forwards this week.
Driving back from Nottingham on Saturday when I lost all air in my front right tyre. Yep, you guessed it. My second wheel had split on the move. Spare wheel on and an angry drive home. I got home from work and set about stripping and rebuilding the wheel. 8 bolts snapped and you could clearly see they'd been well over torqued. Not ideal as I had a show the next morning.
Well the next morning came and it was time for Viva Skeg Vegas VW show. On the way there was an awful lot of scraping and I also managed to rip two cats eyes out of the floor. A couple of photos from the show.
Next up is Edition38 this weekend. I'm on the parts hunt and have already sorted a few bits. A new small splitter and a new grille badge. Because of the ride height, there's no way I could drive down with all our stuff in the car. Time to bring out the 2nd Golf. Lauren refused to take it as it was standard so we set about sorting that.
During
After
And that's it until after Edition38 this weekend.
