Default tuning box/ chip tuning opinions and anyone done it?

figures seem to good to be true which are advertised so i know that they arent correct to individual engines but what do people think on chip tuning boxes? just sounds a bit naff being able to plug in and out wherever and have that extra power, also are the gains noticeable? and is it safe to use them on our engines as the last thing i want is a hole in the side of mine!

have your car remapped by someone who knows what they are doing and can compensate for your mods, generic tuning chips are crap

there isn't really any cheap shortcuts to engine tuning unfortunately.

I still dont get people who wanna make a 1.0 have high power

If you wanna go faster the most effective way is weight loss and traction improvements

I fitted a maf compensator to our old MG ZR 2.0TD. You just disconnected the maf sensor, then plugged this into the middle, one end into the sensor the other end into the loom that went to the sensor. You could turn it up or turn it down, It altered the maf's signal to adjust how much fuel went in. If turned up lots, it smoked it you know what off, turned right down it was about 60bhp and i assume, very economical.

All i can say is despite what people say, it was awesome! Ran on the car for 30K or so with no issue at all and it went WAY BETTER. Mid range the car felt so much more muscular. I tried removing it and the car felt really flat.

I recommend remaps to everyone, but on the basic ZR setup, I'm not sure one would be worth the extra £200+ without any additional mods.

Edit to add, I'm sure you don't have a ZR, so ignore this really, bespoke remaps are far better for modern stuff.

No point in a remap just for breathing mods..unless one of them is forced induction.

I see remaps pointless unless the car has a charger or serious engine mods like aggressive/wild cams or throttle bodies etc.

All a tuning box will do is trick you car into thinking it's not running at full temp, meaning it will over fuel which can cause long term problems.
