Default Electric Cut off

Morning

I have an electric cut of switch which stops the car doing anything at all when it's off - installed in the dash, battery is in the boot, it runs through to the engine bay and splits to starter and alternator.

When you cut it off with the engine running, the engine keeps running. I assume it is basically running off the alternator which is chucking 12v back up the wire and round to the starter, where the 12v feed for the engine loom is also connected. Is there a quick wiring rearrangement that would change this so that the cut off kills the engine, or would it require a load of effort?

Cheers

You need a proper kill switch with a resistor.

like so:

If you have a resistor already, then you need to wire it up properly.

Ah I see. Makes sense, but also looks like a faff so I'll probably leave it. Will remember this if I get round to taking the dash out and redoing stuff. Cheers!
