Belkin powerline or similar - Saxperience

Anyone used anything like this before?

I've just got bt infinity in and want a wired connection. I live in a 3 story house so wiring it directly will be too much hard work...

So looked at these things.

I want it for Xbox live and streaming films etc.

Which ones would be best?

Use them in my house and never had an issue.

Only thing is it depends on the wiring, They will only work on the same circuit.

Yeah i knew that, i was just wondering which Mbps rating would be best.

I have the BT home hub operating dual frequencies (2.4 and 5GHz with 150Mbps and 300Mbps rates)

So is it worth just getting the 300Mbps rated ones or go for the 1000Mbps rated ones for more money?

The speed of the wireless will not affect the speed of a wired connection...

Get the higher rated ones, they will never attain that anyway and if you want to internally stream HD content you want the quickest connection you can get.

I had these in my house as said never had a problem, only used it for xbox as well as I wasn't paying for wireless adaptor think I only paid £40 for mine as a friend works for a electrical firm so money well spent

No, i knew that.

it was merely a comparison of the wireless and the fact that different boxes are capped at different speeds.

Wanted a set of boxes that wouldnt just be the same transfer rate as the wireless as thats pointless!

Not necessarily. The wireless transfer speeds stated will never be reached, plus the speed will degrade a lot more with distance from the source than the wired equivelant will. That said, I'd always go for the higher bandwidth option just to be on the safe side.

I think theres a little confusion here? or sounds like it.

I know all of the above, im just trying to work out which belkin equipment to buy to be able to use a wired connection, as all of them have different Mbps speeds.

Whats the speed of those power line things? if its over 15mbit then you'll be ok to stream HD and online gaming wont even come into the equation to trouble it.

They can be quick. I have some 400mbit ones and some 700mbit or something (I forget the full spec on the better "AV" ones. Even with crappy house wiring, on vastly different parts of the house maybe 75ft away, you still get decent connections - enough to stream full res bluray etc.

I really rave about powerline gear

You can buy all different speeds Gandi.

Think they come in 150/200/300/500/700 and 1000Mbps.

Looking at getting the "HD" 1000 Powerlines as they seem to be the business like. Even my wireless on infinity was flickering a bit playing FIFA last night due to other devices being connected and slowing it down. Think the wiring in my house should be ok, it's a new build.

Managed to get a second hand pair of the 1000Mbps hd's for £40 delivered with 2 network cables!

God a couple at work, they seem to work reasonably well obviously if everythings on the same ring though

Yeah its a new build house and i only have the one fuse box... so im assuming everythings on the same ring!

I'll see what they are like when i get them, if theyre rubbish i'll sell them on.

Just got the adapters set up.

Running very well in comparison to the wireless.

Very pleased, £40 well spent!

I have BT simpler networks adapters (and BT infinity)

Give me good speed and stable connection, unlike my wireless.
