Default Saxo Diesel weird noise + RIP?

Hi all,

My Saxo diesel makes a real weird noise.See video, it starts halfway the video, it comes and goes. :https://youtube.com/shorts/skDAc5M0g...gA5Am3vyWWHQpG
Apart from that it smokes a lot and shakes a lot as if on 2 cilinders and can't get higher then 1500 rpm. I am assuming 2 things are going on at the same time, anyone a clue?

the electric advance mechanism on the Bosch pump has failed, judging by the exhaust colour. Small chance it could be a jammed open EGR valve, so:

On the side of the fuel pump where the injector lines are, there are two 2 pin plugs next to each other. one is black (EGR trigger) and one is blue (advance). unplug both of them. It'll default to the normal internal mechanical advance. You won't notice a difference. It might sounds more diesel clattery.

Don't unplug the 4 pin connector towards the rear of the pump.

edit: that vibration noise sounds like the airbox vibrating on the bracket. they ALL break the mounts. however I can see the top bolt is missing. You should fit a new bolt with a large washer and that should fix it.

Thanks Martin, will try to unplug and ee what happens. About the vibration, I'm afraid its something more then the airbox, its a really hard metal sound. It is a bit strange both things appear at the same time. Could a broken vacuum pump make this kind of noise?

I don't think it's the vacuum pump, when they let go, they let go. your brakes would be unassisted. It's only held on with 2 bolts, take it off and see if it turns smoothly?

Another possibility is the exhaust to gearbox bolt under the car, the bracket could be loose, or the flywheel stone guard.

UPDATE: the strange noise is gone when I push the clutch pedal, so that's got something to do with clutch or gearbox.

Yeah that's not good, mine made a similar noise but it wasn't as bad as yours, the springs on the clutch plate were loose over the years.

What about the rest, did you try unplugging the plugs?

Yes, sorry i replied before without glasses and yes it seems the ratteling noise must be the clutch plate. Now it runs smoother then on gasoline you dont hear it that much. I’ve been told it can drive forever with this problem.
