Canon 430 flash any good?
I want to buy myself a flash soonish and was wondering if the 430 is a good flash at all... I know the 580 is obviously gonna be better, but I can't afford that.
Cheers!
Chris

I have that flash and for my needs it is more than adequete (sp).
What are you mainly going to be shooting? I use it for a bit of portrature (sp) and it works really well indoors and out. Obviously not as powerful as the 580 but more than enough for now.

Your welcome! I think you will be fine with just the 430 tbh but if you can afford the 580 then go for that.

chris I have 430 and 580!
do you want to hook up (in a non gay way) in london or kent to test them.
Personally id allways say save a bit more for 580! its way way more advanced than 430, and has the built in bounce card which i use alot
430 is my backup and im so glad not my main anymore

that would be really good cheers Mate!! Will have to sort something out sometime!
Thing is, would I really use all the functions on the 580.... I mean, you do photography professionallyish, whereas I'm only doing it as a hobby!!

the 430 will be fine enough for you chris. There is little point in blowing a lot more cash in the direction of the 580 as I don't think you'll use the features in all honestly (+ the only major thing going for the 580 is extra power).
Get the 430 and then if you need more power (unlikely) you can get a 550 or a 580. My 550 is still my main flash and a cheeeeap(ish) on ebay.
