Since the car didn't have a working central locking key and the door locks were smoothed over, we had no way of locking or unlocking the car. So last weekend we fitted a Hawk central locking kit and alarm.

We also fitted an OMP Corsica 330mm suede steering wheel.

Whilst feeding the wires through the engine bay, we uncovered a crack in the manifold.

Lastly we started putting the audio and boot lighting together, and pulled out the centre console.

Since the Saxo’s are going to be used as a source of audio over summer, we needed to make sure they were fitted with a decent sound system. So we bought some new Pioneer TS-A2503I speakers to replace the original TS-A2510As we had, and wired them up to a Kenwood 6203 amp.

On Friday evening we took delivery of car number 3, the black VTR with front end accident damage. Because the car wasn’t road legal (though it does have tax, MOT and insurance), we needed to tow it back home. The tow car we were using had a core bare tyre, so we first had to stick on the spare. We then headed out, hooked the Saxo to a tow rope and brought the car home.

Since the weather was warm, we decided to strip down the front of the black VTR.

The slam panel we bought was twisted out of shape, so we got as far as we could without it. The car came with a Hoffman backbox in the boot so we fitted that as best we could, without the correct exhaust rubber, and we removed the smoked rear lights for standard Mk2 lights to keep a consistent theme.

The audio build for the Icelandic is almost finished:

We mounted a Kenwood and SPLX amp to the single sub box.

We also had to cut our homemade exhaust bracket in order to fit the boxes in the boot.

Almost complete.

We went to see our friend Adam again to pick up a new slam for the black Saxo. While we were there we also bought an oil catch tank and some HIDs. We had a bit of an issue when we started the car for the first time. The engine began to overheat as the fan wasn't switching on, but it turned out to be a blown fuse.

All we have left to finish on the front end are the headlights and headlight trims, HIDs to fit, fog lights to connect, realign the bonnet catch and fit a grill.

We’re planning on taking the car away in the middle of August, so that’s our deadline to have it roadworthy.

Cheers lads. We’ve not really managed to do much over the last month due to holidays and busy weekends. But there will be some updates soon. The wedding is now less than a year away and we still have a lot to do.

After a couple of months of being busy with holidays and other events, we found some time to crack on with car 3 on Sunday. We’ve not been in the car for a while and we opened to doors to find wasps had been living in there. We couldn’t find a nest but we found a few large wasps in the seats, door frames and rear door cards. Pictures to follow…

There’s been a bit of a delay since our last post as it’s been a busy time. Over the last couple of weekends we’ve been working on the cars, getting them ready for the deadline, which is now in less than 270 days. We unlocked the black Saxo to find it was littered with wasps, under the seats, inside the door frames and on the rear bench. We cleared them out and looked for a nest but couldn’t find one – after that we fitted the wires for the audio and started removing the dash. We didn’t get many pictures other than this one.

Because we’ve changed the Icelandic steering wheel, the car showed an air bag fault, so we removed out the instrument cluster to cover the air bag LED.

While we had the clocks out, we stuck a DickSound sticker over the rev counter. Which some may remember back from early 2011

.

Along with the light, to get the car MOT ready we tidied up the engine bay, which, with all the additional bits and pieces, had become a mess of wiring amongst the slightly rusty chassis.

The car is now almost MOT ready, only lights to finish.

It's been a while since our last update, with Christmas, New Year and holidays. But we're really starting to get close to the deadline now. Our good friend Neil (Neil_MK1VTS) picked us up some new Mk2 lights for the Icelandic. However when we came to fit them we noticed a huge gap between the wing, bumper, and light on the drivers side.

We also fitted a silent mode switch, which allows us to silence the alarm when we're working on the car, to stop it going off.

A couple of weekends back we went on a 200 mile road trip with a pig-skin wallet full of money to pick up all the parts to finish the Icelandic, and most of the Black Sax. We went to see adam661 and bought a new battery, a set of 106 GTi leathers, a set of VTS wheels, a cold air intake pipe, some smoked indicators, a replacement boot trim, a centre console, a passenger side rear light circuit, some rear badges, and a gear knob. After that we drove to Corby and bought jodie_saxo’s old smoothened bonnet from her old English White smooth VTR, a Mk2 front grill and another gear stick. Finally went to see a local friend who sold us an engine cover. We also ordered two sets of 50mm lowering springs from EuroCarParts.
