Default Saxo VTS NA tuning advice

Hi, im buying a mk2 Saxo VTS tommorow as a project to do me over the winter as a 2nd car. I dont have a clue about whats good and whats not as ive always been into my vauxhalls etc. I know this has probably been asked lots before but what cams, manifolds, exhaust systems and filters do people reccomend and what sort of bhp figure will i be expected to achieve with the above? cheers

depending on budget...

ph3 cams
panel filter
supersprint exhaust and mani
bmc cda induction kit

Don't forget to make it stop better and go round corners tho..

Welcome mate

Cams: Newman ph3 or catcams 708.
Manifolds: Supersprint/Raceland/Gmc/Piper All depends on how much you wanna spend.
Exhaust: Kam racing/Supersprint/piper.
Filter: Bmc/ (Procomp if you can fine one) standed box with uprated filter.
Ecu: There loads of options standalone ecu, Omex, Predator.

expect 150-160hp from cams and mapping, though it depends more on ecu.

look at a 1.1 gearbox - i think this was way better than the others, better than vts and S1 rallye box.

But surely if you change gearbox to a 1.1 then driveshafts will no longer fit, they are different on a 1.1?

1.1 gear box on a cammed vts? more like S1/S2 box or 1.4 xsi....

all racelands are only available second hand at the moment as Raceland are not manufacturing at the moment while they reshuffle the business. The Supersprint Manifold for the Citreon Saxo is the best performing. They are hand finished to smooth the welds so you get the best flow possible through the manifold.

With cams I think the Catcams 1321708 Saxo VTS cams are the best quality on the market. They've changed to using their own blanks for these rather than the other supplier all the other brands use.

Exhausts - the best flowing are the KAM Racing race exhaust or the Supersprint systems for Citroen Saxo.

For Induction the Simota Aeroform enclosed is very nice. Similar to the old raceland enclosed but a far superior quality.

when you go to buy this said car check for negative camber on the rear wheels (wheels touching inner arch) also check for rust under the ecu and fuse box and chassis leg as you being a vaux man you should be educated in the art of rust

Thats good advice mate, never thought of it that way! I'm hoping to get around 200bhp, would be happy with anything over 180!!

And how much money do you have to get to this goal? You are looking at getting to a £6k + engine build for that power. Throttlebodies, cams, stronger cam springs, possible solid lifters etc, forged pistons, Aftermarket ecu, remapping and rolling road time plus everything else...

saxo's are for fun anyway so no point bothering with cosmetics unless you are going for a similar thing to wassy's saxo. Kam racing's solid beam mounts are good upgrade to make the back end a bit more predictable too

As above mate, can't go wrong with any of that. As others have said though, don't forget to uprate the brakes and suspension, the standard brakes aren't going to be fantastic when you are hovering around the 150bhp+ mark
