Yeah it's the pulse tuning which is causing it. Because I've replaced the cat with a straight bit of pipe the expansion box is now the centre section. So chances are the negative pressure at the ports would be higher up. Judging by the torque characteristics the theory seems to support what's going on. I didn't go over 4k for the entire trip so I'm guessing that even though there was a positive pressure at the ex. port the flow charcteristics were such that the pulse at part throttle was only causing a slight drawback in comparison.
Need to get it back on the rollers to see what the poweroutput is like now though...
based on previous runs, 270 miles to a half tank is well above 50 mpg. The route was m1-a1-cock up through worksop-m1-m42-m5-then an hour twistys.
Not the perfect run which is even better news

nope, still got the standard cat but I'm not entirely convinced the cat is knackered (think the 2nd lambda might be duff) so I've sleeved the second lambda, reset the MIL and waiting to see if the MIL kicks in again... if it kicks in chances are the lambda is gone and the cat is actually ok, if it stays off the cat is buggered. In which case I'll trash the living daylights out of the inside of the cat and refit it.

Roadworks around Nottingham? Dad mentioned something yesterday.
Michelins rock and I agree with you about better tyres, I have seen an increase with both remap and new tyres.

I take it you stuck to the A57 and didn't actually come through worksop? Or was that the cock up and you came through worksop? In which case, gutted.
