Question Weird Indicator Issues

Hi newbie here so go easy on me, trying to sort this out myself (not a hands on car guy by any means!) and got to a dead end so thought I'd ask the experts....

Bleeding indicators on a '53' plate 1.1 Desire.

Hazard lights seem to work fine but not tried at speed.

Turning Left all works fine, stationary and at speed.

Turning Right, generally doesn't work... can work when you start the car and are stationary but at any sort of speed tends not to work. Although I have found if you push the stalk towards the steering column that it does tend to work.

So in theory the bulbs are ok and the fuses are ok.

Relay issue? if so I guess simple to replace?

Stalk issue? if so I guess not so simple to replace?

User issue? - should be replaced!!!

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

That sounds like a stalk issue to me, where abouts in the UK are you? I only ask because I know there's a new 1.1 desire in a scrap yard near me and they're reasonably priced too if you needed a stalk.

Definitely the stalk you need.

The indicators and hazards operate from the same relay so if the hazards are working that leaves only the stalk. it's a really simple circuit.

Question

Ok so got a replacement stalk...

Just a case of fitting it now!

I've undo the two screws under the steering column but that doesn't seem to make much difference to anything.

Do I need to then start on the console screws as well to get to the top half of the housing round the steering column?

Or does anyone have a link to a video showing how I should do this?

Hopefully I don't have to take the steering wheel off to do this!!!!!!

Thumbs up

Ah, excellent thank you, I did try and search but my Web-Fu is weak.

Is there an easy way to get to the bolts behind the steering wheel I think the set I have will be too long to get into the gap so could be interesting to see how it goes!

I'll let you all know how badly I screw it up....

Sorry for the basic links and no explanation about what each was but I was busy at the time. Have you managed to swap the stalk over yet and if so, is your problem fixed?
