I've just forcibly taken some pics of my mother using it... this is really the first time I've had a chance to piss about the lens properly... it get better and better.
If you think the animals are sharp dude (sadly most were at f/1.2) you should check out the pics of mothersayer, you can see the wrinkles and lines in superb detail.
Yeah the 85L was an impulse buy I've always had a fascination with the thing ever since I saw one at a geeky photographer meet in london £1200 it aint cheap but I'm ignoring that fact until my bank statement comes through...
EDIT: sorry front lens diameter is only 72mm but it's the rear element that is FOOKING scary.

£1200 blimey what you been doing over the summer robbing post offices lol, to be fair im starting to generate a bit of a shopping list myself. will probably be looking into getting a
40D, or see what the replacement is (50D?)
sigma 10-20
canon 70-200mm IS w/ x1.4 teleconvertor
a 500 lens possibly a sigma 170-500mm or 50-500mm
studio flash kit of some sort, ideally with 3 flash heads.
light meter

good list
5D mkII is top of mine at the moment... price dependant.
10D, 40D and 5D... somethings gonna have to go really
good shout on the TC man, it's a must sooo frustrating knowing you have this nice nice lens and it's just a bit limited in range for sports.
naa no post offices, as said before, doing ok off the back of the degree and the odd photography job.
