Default Guide: Sharpening

Well there's been a few threads people sharing know how, so thought i'd share this. Hopefully will be a help to someone out there!

Here's a quick guide on the way I sharpen images using Photoshop CS3... I'm not saying it's the BEST way or 100% accurate, but, it's quick and seems to work pretty well. Can't remember exactly where/who I picked this up from, but credit should go to them!

Start off with your image in need of sharpening:

Open it up in Photoshop:

Go to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen as shown below:

This box will then pop up and Photoshop will give you some crappy default settings:

Change the settings to match these:

Amount: 100%
Radius: 0.2 (ish, although can be adjusted depended how sharp you want to go)
Remove: Lens Blur

Your settings will then look like this:

Then click OK, and you're done!

Final sharpened image:

Here are too cropped sections to compare; the detail in the eyes and hair is much more defined.

I could have probably even gone a little less sharp on this by adjusting the Amount % or Radius accordingly, but this was just for a quick example.

And that's it!

Nice thats pretty much the same as Unsharp mask method and works a treat when re-sizing.
Will have to give this ago and see which works the best.
