you will need to buy a 106 rallye phase 1 gearbox - call up scrappies and ask for a low milage box, it needs to be in good shape!! (no crunching, or differencial probs)
you dont have to have a remap dasktec but its ideal if you can afford it. the box will just replac ethe standard one and away you go...

suspension and breaks also make you faster so upgarde them

personelly i wouldnt waste my money on a vtr engine after breathing mods but thats upto you

why not save for a vts and have more power at the start and any mods you do will see a bigger improvment then it would with a 8v engine

superchips are gay so stay clear

if you really want to mod the 8v

bmc airfilter
gmc 4-1 manifold
de cat
piper/magnex/scorpion exhaust
thats when i would stop modding it
but after that would be cam and remap and maybe a bit of headwork
shorter ratio gearbox

this is my list for you:

BMC filter, zorst cat back, S1 box (keep the standard clutch they can take alot of abuse you know! if it goes up rate it then) 206 gti brakes, lower is just on springs -40mm, then remap if you can afford it... jobs done... stop chatting & get on with it LOL

this will see good gains and a decent handling quick car... i belive this is what you want!?

my list is up and im sticking with it. . . . i mean its pritty much wot i had on mine!

if a quick car with out spending a fortune (ecept in kangeroo juice) is wot he wants itll get him by nicly.

imo a manifold isnt worth the money in this case.

imo the money what you would spend on a re map isnt worth it and would see better gains froma de cat and a decent manifold

not been funny but i've spoken to a few experts in the past few weeks as i'm about to have a lot of work done to my 8v lump, from what i've been told i'll list, bare in mind this is for rally use so will be shit in town driving...

bmc air filter, piper or kent high lift about 10.51(be careful as sum you will need to upgrade the injectors ie. cossie injectors with cossie pump and vts fuel rail) also on cam front replace the followers with new uprated ones, piper/kent also sell these and then a vernier pulley also by piper/kent. carburettors or individual throttle bodies will give you a great power increase, 4-2-1 stainless manifold, cat back system(best with sports cat, quite cheap from certain places, then it come down to the head and block.

have it stripped at a specialist garage, have it ported and polished, increase the valve sizes and replace valves with stronger ones, have all this gas flowed and the inlets and outlets ground out slightly to create more air flow, this is all done when gas flowing, porting etc. just explian to the place that you want it to perform to its highest potential.

and on the gearbox front if you've got serious money i would go for a straight cut short ratio box with a high friction slipper clutch with strenthend release bearing. also an lsb final drive unit. all this is very expensive and very noisey!!

on the cheaper front i agree with the other guys, the 1.3 106 rallye gearbx is extremly good for accelleration but top end is crap. but what you can do...as i'm told do not quote, is replace the 5th gear with that of the 5th gear on a 106/saxo diesel gearbox, this will enable you to get to a higher top speed, be it slower but u shud get there... eventually.. lol

you then want uprated drive shafts and stregthen final drive if you going for serious power mind.

if turboing or supercharging make sure you strengthen the interanls i.e pistons/rings etc....

also uprating the standard cooling system and electrical system can make small differences.

you may also want to stregthen the engine mounts and all the ball joints and bearing and cv joints below etc. what ever!!!

after all is done a remap, rolling road to visually see your achievment and then happy days!!!

this is what i have in the pipe line for mine over the next year, hope this helps some what. hope you share the same passion as me!!!

oh yeah without the turbo you can be looking at sub 150bhp. at the flywheel.

take care

Tony
