Go and look at some, try and get a plasma and lcd together ask them to put them on there default settings (should all be liek that now) then you decide
plasma are nice but somehow i prefer lcd
Maybe youd be better just waiting for the sales and buy a OLED one

Maybe not, get some questions fired at the salesman
but like i say make sure there all on the same settings or default settings, they do tend to put one on better settings to sell it

i have 2 lcds and a plasma and the picture is a hell of a lot better on the plasma. you could always splash out and get an led one they beat both!!
i read this a while ago, after buying an lcd and this made me choose a plasma http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/

to be honest i would say anything over 37 inches needs to be a plasma as lcd can look quite grainy above that size

This isn't really a problem as an LCD now will last in excess of 15 years of heavy use before you will be able to see the difference.
Plasma's do not suffer from dead pixels, however I will always just "prefer" LCD's.
Also, Currys etc cheat when showing you TV's as you'll notice the lights are always darker in the TV section to give you the impression the TV's are better than they really are.
IMHO an expensive plasma now will give a better picture if you have a 1080p one...but there are FAR more top end LCD's to choose from.
I have a 1080p Sony KDL46W2000 and it's brilliant. 2 years old, £2500 when I got it...still far better than the £1,000 TV's you get now.
Also, a point to remember - Dynamic Contrast is a bag of crap. If you cannot turn it off, do not get the tv. it's so f*cking annoying when your TV is there going darker then lighter then darker just cos the company wants to quote "50,000:1 contrast ratio". it's a marketing gimmic that screws up the viewing experience.

LCD TV's have really stepped up their game over the last year or so. When Plasma's were more popular they were obviously better than LCD's. But the price tag reflected this also.
Now however the better brand LCD's have a better backlight, and their blacks are more natural (rather than grey).
Plasmas are more expensive, use more power and are much bigger in size. Facts are that it makes so much more sense to go LCD witht he tech thats available now. Plasmas will eventually disappear Im sure of it.
Ive not looked too much into OLED LCD's. Im not convinced there is a huge improvement to make the jump as of yet.
The best LCD TV's Ive seen are Samsung/Toshiba/LG. Im not that impressed by Sony (overpriced!) and Philips, not sure on Panasonic..
