wi fi extension advice
we have a room at the back of our house that doesn't receive wi fi signal, I've seen this thing D-Link 200Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack
it says it plugs into socket and you plug another socket else where and it transmits the signal through your house electrical wiring!
is the really what it looks like ? or has anyone any advice about achieving wifi in a room it won't reach atm? it's only £27 for this thing I've seen!

Yes do it, they are very good and the best solution for your problem. I set up a similar system in my bosses house (after he let me use his pool that was )
It does not work however if your house happens to have to mains supplies unless both are on the same supply.

Thats not going to give you wifi in that room though, it will give you a network point for a wired connection.
I would assume to use your home power lines to get wifi in the other room you would actually need this kit: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solu...-n-starter-kit
Anyone can feel free to correct me though

Yes that is indeed correct, as there was no link to the particular one he was looking at I assumed the receiving plug was wireless (newb error). You can however put a router on the other end of it in AP mode to allow you to connect wirelessly but for the price of it you may as well get the wireless receiver in the first place.

If you specifically want to extend the wifi you have two options really:
1) Look into a repeater
2) Move the router to a more centralised location in the property

Never used them but a few people at work have them and they seem to work from what I can tell, make sure your existing Wireless Router is compatible before buying one though.

Either solution will work well. The power lines should be connected directly to the plug not via an extension cable, though.
Another idea is a high gain adapter, I had this issue in my old place I got no signal in my room, sobought a high gain adapter for a tenner with the intention of getting the wireless powerlines if or didn't work but i got 3/4 bar signal... so didn't need too. The adaptor I got was an edimax 300mbps from amazon, its quite big but does the job.
