Tyre recommendations fast road/track
Currently running 195/45/15 Toyo proxes 4's
However the load rating is 78 and as grippy as they are there is a lot of flex on hard cornering so to compensate im pumping the tyres up about 3psi extra. However this loses grip and is probably scrubbing my tyres out a bit quicker.
Want to get something with a higher load rating and therefore stiffness but really don't know what to get.
They will be used primarily for the road but also for trackdays like brands on the 17th Dec
Wouldn't mind a 50 profile but as im lowered 40mm this isn't going to work methinks...

toyo r888's are probably best road legal track tyres, but they dont last as long as normal road tyres, arent fantastic in the wet and are quite expensive

I can second that bit about them not lasting long. Last set I had lasted about 3 hours give or take. Some times they don't last that as they do flat spot very easily compared to road rubber. They also pic up punctures a lot more then normal road tyres. Also agree about them not being great in the wet. If you start getting a lot of standing water they are poor. I have a few sets cut in to full wets but then once there warn a bit there not much use for dry or wet.

R888 prices have gone through the roof its mental, so have A048's and the like.
I'm going with some Federal 595 RSR's in 195/50/15, pretty cheap considering they are classed as a semi-slick (£65-£70) a tyre and the reviews say they are very good and last 3 or 4 times as long as R888's. Federal also do a tyre called Federal FZ-201 which is again a semi-slick and are around £90 a tyre. Keep an eye out for Federal as they are an up and coming brand that have already gained recognition in some race leagues becoming the control tyre (in the US). There cheap as chips at the moment for R888 & A048 quality!
You could try Toyo T1R's as well, you can get them from camskill in 195/50/15 for £26 a tyre!! Although they also don't have very strong sidewalls.

Have to keep an ear out for those federals they sound interesting. Got any pics of details of them? I got lucky and found a second hand set of Ao48's but might not be so lucky next time.
Joe ive gone from Toyo TR1s to Goodyear eagle F1's (GSD3's) Found them alot stiffer then the toyos and are also a harder compound as they dont seem to over heat or blister as much on track as they toyos did. Dont seem to have any less grip either. Only downer is they are a little more expensive.

toyo r1r are meant to be pretty good tyres!
aswell, as the above mentioning Goodyear eagle F1...
but personally id go for pirelli PZR / PZN if your wanting for fast road!
ive ran a few cars with the F1 and changed to the pirelli, and never went back!

There are a few you can try out really:
Federal 595 RS-R:
Federal FZ-201
Hankook RS2: - £50 a tyre from camskill in 195/50/15
Silverstone FTZ: (limited sizes)
You won't find any 'performance' tyres in 195/45/15 apart from Toyo Proxes etc, all track tyres tend to be in 195/50 or bigger. I know you can get some with low profiles such as Avon ACB10 but you need a mortgage for them!

T1-R's are better than the proxes 4 - and i had some good ammount of camber on the front wheels due to the coilovers needing topmounts to allign properly, as it understeered so much with the normaly budget tyres, put on T1-R's and all was fine unless you were caning it round corners (you'd get a bit of understeer in the wet)
Was not on a sax though.
Ive just bought a set of Nankang NS2's and have herd they are rated very highly for the price you can get them (£130) But anything will beat R rims with budgets lol

Looks like i'll have to stick with 195/45 for the time being till i can do some research into how i can make 195/50's fit without rubbing, which im sure they will if im down 40mm

nothing wrong with 195/50/15 unless your silly low. Plenty people run 50 profiles on track which are 50mm or even lower. You may get the slight odd rub on track but you would with 45 profiles and you probably wouldn't even notice. I was 25mm and even mine showed signs of the occasional rub, what you expect when throwing it through chicances at high speed and the wheels coming off the ground
Hankook rs-2s are good think they would over heat fairly quickly on a track but they are better than t1-rs imo. Got them on the Civic atm.
All honestly I think you should try federal FZ-201s then let me know how you get on as i was planning to get some when my r888s die off.

Joe, if your silly low with 50 profile,
Take off ALL the arches, all front 2 trims, and rear 2 quater trims, then take a pair of metal cutters and go allong shaving off what you want (an inch or two) leave the holes for the clips there so you can clip everything back on, or you can bond it back on
This is the trick with putting 17's on the cars - as its hidden with the arch trims, because being 40mm on 17's is like being down 60mm on 15"'s, but 45 profile you will feel the road allot more and more positive feedback.
