Ceramic coating

Anyone had it done or know about it?
I'm looking at the proper coating and not the paint on type.

I emailed Zircotec to get some prices, £239 for Primary Black; £342 for Performance White

It's more expensive but can reduce temps by 33%, just not sure if it's worth it.

i had the manifold and downpipe on my evo done by zircotec in black, expensive but it did bring engine bay temps drastically

turn around time was about 2 weeks-ish

Not worth it unless you have the cash to splash. Going to fatigue the exhaust faster, at which point you will have to get it done again

How would it fatigue the exhaust faster?

on high power, turbo engines that create masses of heat then yes i would say its worth it. I did a fair bit of research before i spunked the 400 odd quid on it and it had brought down engine bay temps by 30% and inlet temps by up to 6 degrees

cant say i saw any difference in performance after having it done though

Heating any metal causes it to become brittle, with any coati g you are causing more dramatic heat changes to the metal, hence fatiguing quicker. Makes sense?

I guess so but a decent manifold is designed specific to the application, like turbo manifolds are generally twice as thick primary's as an NA manifold. The there are the cheap alternatives that will melt/ blow through but I wouldnt be concerned over a decent, proven option

Completely agree with the above. How often does anyone see a standard saxo manifold crack? Iv never heard of it happening, but in the end the metal is stressed. Would it put me off ceramic coatings? No.

Ive seen 4 standard cast ones crack lol

Coating is like anything really for keeping heat in its not a HUGE benefit for the cash
That said however its something im looking at as my car seems to run hotter without a wrapped mani but having seen wrap cause several fires im very reluctant to use it so coating would be my choice

I've run zircotec for years. Highly rate it. Under bonnet temps dropped significantly afterwards, it looks lovely, and you can touch the manifold after about 5 minutes of engine off.

Keeping the heat in the exhaust = faster exhaust gasses = better scavenging, less lag etc.

Don't see any drawbacks myself - other than price. But I did mine over 3 years ago so that's a long forgotten pain lol

Been in the game longer than I have Alex quite a low percentage in reality though.

Cast manifolds cracking, fuck me were they running anti lag??

Porosity or something perhaps so the air caught in expanded cracking it
It never sounded blowy or anything
