Default Mk2 1.1 desire holes in intake

Picked up a saxo the other day went to look at the intake to decide on opening it up and saw that the intake halves in size at one point why? Just after the flexi link.

Also just before the flexi link holes is this oem or someone been drilling?
Already ordered some 63mm 2 ply hosing to connect to the piece of plastic at the slam pannel

I.find that odd I also find the tube getting smaller odd this causing a venturii effect making tge pressure in the box lower and in the flexi tube pressure is higher also means its dragging air in from the engine bay

Oh well get a hose on there soon

that tiny restrictor bit is so it meets c02 requirements etc restrict power.
At a rolling road event, we took that tiny restriction off, made a whole 3hp differance.
At the upper end of the rev range, that tiny bit more air flowing into the engine makes the differance.
But the holes are standard.

on my 1.4, when i removed the pipe and replaced it with a k&n feed pipe on the airbox, the engine was much stronger, especially up the top end of the revs, induction noise was a bit louder too, i always remove it, done it for my mates 1.4 saxo and even he said it was much better, a little better on petrol too as you needed less throttle to keep the same speed.

It's a 1.1 saxo, not a formula 1 car, doesn't need to get so technical....
