Is ECU Re-Mapping really worth it on a Saxo Vtr 1.6 W reg
I’ve been researching the internet on ECU re-mapping and have herd it can increase performance and fuel efficiency 'apparently'. Is it worth paying hundreds for someone to do it? At the cheapest I’ve seen a price for £250.
Has anyone got a VTR 1.6 and done this with good results?
How would I be able to tell a con from a legit ECU re-mapping?

for 250 it will probably be quite a poor one....best one are done on the rollers.
a map would be better if you have exhaust and breathing mods minimum requirment id say.
more worthwhile if you have a cam and get that mapped.
there are lots of threads about this...

Firstly even if you was going to do an ECU re-map, you wouldnt look for the cheapest.. id look for the best quality one which will definetly have the results im looking for rather than shoot away 250 squids?
Secondly i agree with frankie, get some engine mods on first to make the map worthwhile

only gonna be worth it if you do the filter, exhaust and manifold and put a performance camshaft on then get it remapped

Oh right thanks for the advice,
I now know to stay away from the dodgy 'DIY ECU remapping kits' being sold on eBay lol.
I will take your advice and not even bother with the ECU until I’ve got mod’s on the engine.
what kind of induction kit would you says best, ive got a forced induction kit on it atm.

if you have a forced induction you'll need a re-map

no, no, no lol
get the exhaust, decat/manifold, make sure u have a good induction kit, not some shitty cone filter
then get cams leave the gearbox alone!
then get a remap, then if u have money left buy a 1.1/vts gearbox or something if u really want to go all out..

I was told that if you put a lower ratio box from a smaller model will increase acceleration, decrease top speed and not last long! lol

let the box warm up and you'll be fine.
but yes youll gain acceleration and lose top end.
my top end speed is 110

Yeah but the 1.1 box's aren't as strong IIRC.
Exhaust, 4-2-1, Decent Induction Kit. Leave along, enjoy and save for a car with more tuning potential. Simples.

all saxo boxes are as strong as each other, so a 1.1 will be just as crap as a vts box lol
yes ull lose top end but accelerate alot better.
