All i know is that it was Blueyonder but virgin media bought them so its now them

Well Virgin Media do two types of internet.
Basically the Cable and Non-Cable (through telephone line).
On your modem, is there a white cable that screws into the back of it? Possible to take a picture?

I'll be cable then, and yes there is a white lead that screws in the back, the internet isnt though the telephone line i know that for sure, cant get pictures as my mum is asleep.

Sounds cable to me mate.
You need a CABLE router then and not a ADSL one. Make sure when you buy it...

Just an idea mate (as this is what I would do) Are there any spare networking ports left on the back of your main switch (the back box shown in the picture)?
If so then I'd just buy a Wireless Access Point and add it onto the network. I'd recommend Linksys and Netgear stuff to ya
